Pike County was established on January 31, 1821 and it's current county boundaries of a total of 828 square miles were established by 1825. Pike County is named for Pike County, Kentucky which in turn was named for Zebulon Montgomery Pike (1779-1813), a general of the War of 1812, an explorer of the Louisiana Purchase and the discoverer of Pikes Peak in Colorado.
