William Beardsley, born 1605 at Stratford-on-Avon, England, died 1660/1 Ct., will dated 28 September 1660, proved 6 July 1661. Aged 56. Immigrated from England in 1635 at the age of 30 to Connecticut. Married 26 January 1631 in England to Mary Harvey, who was aged_26 in 1635. Located at Hartford, Ct. in 1638 but the following year was one of the first settlers and original proprietors of Stratford, Ct. Founder of Stratford, Ct. 1639. Extensive land owner. Military_Service. Deputy to the general court 1645-51. Deputy (Stratford) to Connecticut Legislature, September 1645, September 1649, May 1650, September 1651, May 1652, October 1653, February 1657, May 1658. He was a mason on list. Weaver. Made a freeman in 1656. William is believed to be the ancestor of all the Beardsleys in America. Children: Mary b. 1631 md Wethersfield May 1651 to Thomas Wells, son of Hugh, and settled at Hadley.
