Peter Demuth, cartwright, applied on 11.31.1839, like his brother Johann, for immigration. The Mayor at that time, Rechling, wrote the following in the approval process. "He has a brother in America who settled as a cartwright and makes a good living as a cartwright. He hopes to improve his existents, which here is very poor. If he had a futhre here as a cartwright I don't think that he could have wanted to immigrate."
Peter and Johann immigrated together to the USA on 02.17.1840.

Michael Demut (Demuth) was born in Saint Wendel, Koenig, now St. Wendel, Saarland, Germany. When he was born, St. Wendel was in Prussia, now Germany.
Michael Demut (Demuth) came to USA in July 1836 on the ship Selvelde Grasse which landed at the Port of Boston. He was 21 years old and the records in Washington, DC state that he was from Prussia and was a farmer. Michael found his way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from which he moved to Ferdinand, Indiana in 1842 or 1843. He bought 48 acres in Ferdinand Township about 1 mile south of Ferdinand. Michael is buried in the Ferdinand Cemetary. The inscription on his tombstone indicated a birth date of Aug, 15, 1814. The grave is in St. Ferdinand Cemetary, Sect. A, row 7, next to his wife Magdalena Demuth (Schmidlin). The inscription also indicated that he was born in St. Wendel.
Note: (7-15-1997) Received information about the ship. Name was Sylvie de Grasse that arrived at NY July 25, 1836 from Le Havre, France. (Will verify)

Michael was listed as Michel on the manifest. It stated he was 22 years old and a farmer, traveled alone from Prussia and arrived in the Port of NY, District of NY, on July 25, 1836.

1880 Census gave Barbara's birthplace as Bavaria. Also Bavaria was listed for both of her parents birthplace.
According to a letter from Francis (Demuth) Wendholt, "Barbara come over before Michael and worked in Louisville, Ky. they may have known one another from Germany."
According to the manifest of the ship Silvie deGrasse on which Michael traveled to America, there was a Philip Feller, age 17, from Bavaria. (Recd 4/27,1998) (Can not establish any relationship with Barbara.)

This brother was Michel Demuth.The Mayor at that time, Rechling, writes in the approval process for immigration of Johann Demuth, "The reason for Demuth's immigration is that there is so many shoemakers here that there is no way he can exist by his profession. According to "St. Anthony Church Records" compiled by Doane, Saint Anthony, founded in 1864, was originally called Flatcreek and St. Joseph before St. Anthony. Earlier church records are under Celestine.
Started Post Office in St. Anthony, In., in 1874 and was 1st Postmaster. Also owned store in St, Anthony and sold it in 1896 to Ben Wibbles. (From information in St Anthony -Centennial booklet)
Served in Indiana unit, Forty Fourth Regiment, Company G, of Union Army during Civil War, mustered in at Washington, Daviess County, Sept 26, 1864 and was Honorably discharged June 13, 1865 at Chattanooga, Tenn. He held the rank of Private. He applied for a disability pension (claim no. 373755) sometime before 1898. (From Documents S-402, Dept of Interior, Bureau of Pensions, dated May 4. 1898; S-173, dated December 10. 1898; and re-application document S-349, dated November 12, 1913.)
The Indiana Forty Fourth Regiment was organized in 1864 at Fort Wayne, In, and nearly all were recruits from Dubois Co. The unit was mustered out on Sept, 14, 1865. The unit served in Ky., Mississippi, and Tennessee. It's last year was in Eastern Tennessee.
Was killed Sunday afternoon by a reckless driver, while walking at 22nd and Jefferson Street, Louisville, Ky. (From article in The Huntingburg Special, Huntingburg, In., 7/1/21) According to his granddaughter, Thelma Demuth (Weigel), who witnessed the accident from a candy store at the corner and fainted when she saw that Michael had been hit, also remembered him being taken to a Doctor's office, also at the intersection and later he died at the home of his son, Edward. Michael is buried in the St Anthony Cemetary in St Anthony, Indiana. A Guard of Honor composed of World War Veterans stood by his bier.
Michael was visiting his son, Edward, who lived at 221 So. 22nd Street, just a few doors away to the North. He was in Louisville for the wedding of his grandson, Clarence Demuth.

St. Anthony, Ind, Dec. 5__Miss Minnie Demuth died in St. Joseph's Hospital in Louisville, Wednesday,Nov. 28 and her remains were brought to the home of Gus Troxler for burial, the funeral services being held Saturday morning. She is survived by brothers, Joe, Ed, Theodore, and Robert Demuth. She was loved by everyone who knew her. The following attended her funeral--Mr. and Mrs. Joe Demuth and Mr. and Mrs Ed. EDWARD DEMUTH IS CRASH VICTIM
Rain, Mist Blamed In Mishap
Edward Demuth, 52 years old, 2235 Osage Avenue, died at 12:45 AM Wednesday morning at the City Hospital from a fractured skull suffered early Tuesday night in an automobile collision at Twenty-second Street and Osage Avenue. His head struck the pavement when the force of the crash hurled him out of his car. The driver of the other automobile, Arvin Campbell, 23, of Muldraugh, Ky., was arranged in Police Court on a manslaughter charge. The case was continued until April 25. The Patrolman, Walter Jewell, who investigated the accident, found that due to poor visibility caused by rain and mist, neither driver saw the other until too late.
Mr Demuth, a salesman for the John C. Lewis Company, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Demuth; a son Edward, a daughter Thelma, and three brothers, Robert of Memphis, Tenn., and Joseph and Theodore Demuth.

Mrs Emma A. Demuth
Funeral services for Emma A. Demuth, 54 years old who died Monday night at her residence, 3112 Virginia Ave., will be held at 2:00 Thursday afternoon at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Henry Rogalinski, 2715 Greenwood Avenue, and at 2:30 o'clock at the St. Paul's Evangelical church. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Demuth who was a sister of Former Magistrate Fred Warns, is survived by a son, Edward Demuth; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Weigel, and two other brothers, Emil T. Warns of Des Moines, Iowa, and Carl A. Warns.
According to record written in Richard E. Weigel's Baby Ancestry Book, Emma came to America from Germany at age 3 Years. Therefore, the family came in 1883.
