New Albany Daily Ledger 15 May 1864: Coroner’s Inquest — An inquest was held by me on the 12th instant upon the dead body of Stephen Highfield, found dead in New Albany twp, Floyd county, Indiana. He had in his pocket a railroad pass from John C. Crane, Quartermaster’s Department, Nashville. He was of dark complexion, about five feet ten inches high, and aged from 30 to 35 years. Verdict of the jury — deceased came to his death from causes unknown to the jury.
