Son of Hiram Quincy and Rachael Ewing Cox; born June 12, 1894, Alexandria, Madison County, Ind. Family moved to Grant County in 1895. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army May 8, 1917, Marion, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Syracuse, N.Y.; assigned to Company C, 5th Machine Gun, Battalion. Overseas in September, 1917. Killed in action June 6, 1918, in Chateau-Thierry Sector. Buried in American Cemetery, Belleau, Aisne. The American Legion Post, Fairmount, Ind., named in his honor.
