Son of Benjamin and Cordelia Hayworth; born February 14, 1900, Matthews, Grant County, Ind. High school student when he volunteered in U.S. Navy April 17, 1917. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Transferred to Bremerton, Wash., where he died of spinal meningitis, May 6, 1917. Buried at Matthews, Grant County, Ind. The American Legion Post of Matthews, Ind. is named in his honor.
