Son of Joseph (deceased) and Phoebe Whiteside Jones; born July 27, 1889, Whitley County, Ind. Moved to Marion, Ind. about 1895. Laborer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army February 7, 1914, and was sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Transferred to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind.; assigned to Company D, 14th Infantry. Transferred to U.S. guard duty, Nome, Alaska, where he was frozen to death July 25, 1917. Buries in U.S. Government Cemetery, Nome, Alaska.
