Son of George and Mary Stephens; born April 30, 1899, Dunkirk, Jay County, Ind. Moved to Grant County in 1909. Employee of glass factory. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard in June, 1917. Received discharge in December, 1917 in order to enter Navy. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill., where he died September 28, 1918. Buried in Jefferson Cemetery, near Gas City, Ind.
