Son of Elmer E. and Ada Thornburg; born December 5, 1895, Marion, Ind. Attending Indiana University when he enlisted June 21, 1917, in the University Unit, Ambulance Corps, Section 588. Sent to Allentown, Pa. Overseas in January, 1918. Transferred to Ambulance Section 544. Awarded Croix de Guerre; also bronze and silver star from French Army for bravery. Killed in action October 20, 1918. Buried in French Cemetery, Bagancourt. (?) The American Legion Post in Marion, Ind. is named in his honor.
