Sophomore Class
The
Sophomore class of '52 started the year out thinking and discussing colors for
their class sweaters. Several salesmen brought samples for them to see. Finally,
they agreed to buy pearl gray sweaters with royal blue letters from Ed Johnson.
It took long enough for the sweaters to get here, but the sophomores were proud
to own them when they did arrive. In October the class sponsored an amateur show
for the Halloween Carnival. The special features were the Harmonettes, Patricia
McDermitt, Delores Stewart, and Jeannie Brown; Belle From Hopkins Corner, a
reading and tap dance by Billie Jo Wallace; the Pixie Four, Larry Smith, Larry
Hughes, Joe Kelsey and Richard Curless; a piano solo by Phyllis Whiteman; and a
vocal solo by Carolyn Worl. The skits were "Dew Dew Dewy Day," and "Goofus
Dance." The first party was held in December. It was a potluck supper in the
cafeteria. Games were held in the gym afterwards. To gain entrance each student
had to have at least one Swan soap wrapper, which was later sent to CARE. A
market day sale was set for March 25. The sophomore plays were scheduled for
April 13-14. They consisted of three one-act plays. The comedy was "Elmer,"
melodrama was "The Farmer's Daughter," and the serious play was the "The True in
Heart."
