French Lick Church
Congregation Photo
Submitted by Rich Southers
This photo is believed to be of a Church Congregation in French Lick. According to Rich, " Although difficult to read, the sign above the door says: Sunday School 9:30 am, Preaching 10:30 am 7:30 pm. The building number on the doorway is 3817.
My grandfather, Faye Eugene (Gene) Southers is in the last row, second in from the right. He taught school at French Lick for two or three years up until 1918. He and Clara were married Christmas Eve of 1918, and moved to Indianapolis after that. The reason I think this photo is French Lick, is that Gene was born and raised near Oolitic in Lawrence County, and they used to joke about the fact that he went to the "big city" of French Lick after he graduated high school. Given the size of this structure, and the fact that it appears that there are either electrical or telephone poles in the background, I'm guessing this is French Lick. Maybe someone else will recognize it.
