H, 80th Ill Reg. enrolling at Central City Ill 12 Aug 1862 and was discharged at Camp Harker Tenn 10 Jun 1865. captured at Rome, Georgia, May 3, 1863, confined at Richmond Virginia May 3-15, 1863, when he was paroled at City Point. (Reference: National Archives Alfred Faulkner Pension File WC 331.133). Alfred was born 2 Aug 1832 Green Co. Ky. the son of William Faulkner and Anna Harned, married 20 Mar 1859 Marion Co. Ill to Amanda Caroline Grubb (formerly of Southeast Twp., Orange Co.), and died 2 Jun 1911 at the Home for Disabled Soldiers, Danville, Ill where he is buried. Alfred resided in Southeast Twp, Orange Co. from about 1842 to 1859, and then again in 1865. - FAULKNER, Joseph Franklin;private in Co. F, 49th Ill Reg, enrolling 18 Dec 1861 at Richview, Ill. He received a gunshot wound to his right foot at the Battle of Shiloh 6 Apr 1862, and a disability discharge 15 Aug 1862 at Jackson Tenn. The records of the Adjutant General also indicated that he was disabled by a deafness of the right ear and partial deafness of the left ear at Shiloh. (Reference: National Archives, Joseph Faulkner Pension file WC 473.645). ). He was 2 Mar 1834 Green Co. Ky. the son of William Faulkner and Anna Harned. He married Sarah Catharine Long 19 Oct 1863 Orange Co. Ind and died 4 Feb 1898 being buried in the Paoli Old Town Cemetery. After the War he studied medicine practicing at Schnellsville and Birdeye in Dubois Cos. Refer also to the History of Pike and Dubois Counties, Ind, 1885, pg.721-722.

Obituary for Joseph A. Smith :
Aged Andrew County Man Dies Near Cosby June 11 After Life of Usefulness Joseph A. Smith died at his home near Cosby, Sunday June 11, 1922 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 9 days. He had been a resident of Andrew County since 1851. Joseph A Smith was born in Orange County, Indiana, September 2, 1841. He moved with his parents to Missouri, Andrew County in 1851. He enlisted in the 12th Missouri Calvary at the age of 18 and served his country three years and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage October 28, 1869, to Liza Castle who died at her home August 19 1877. To this union two children were born William J. Smith of Helena Montana and Mrs. A. M. Kimberlin of Helena. He was united in marriage in 1879 to Alice Orange (Oren). To this union three chi1dren were born. Mrs. J. E. Wright and Mrs. W. H. Lafon both of St. Joseph and Mrytle Mae Smith who went before him at the age of three years. He leaves nineteen grandchildren. Mr. Smith united with the Bethel Baptist Church in February 1889. He was ever unselfish and kind always doing something for others even to the last day, planning something to do or have done for the benefit or the pleasure or comfort of those around him. He had been failing in health for six years. Rev S. Riggs conducted the funeral services Tuesday at 12 o'clock at the Bethel Church. The many beautiful flowers expressed the love of the relatives, neighbors and friends who followed the remains to the Bethel Cemetery, where the body was laid to rest. The Odd Fellows gave their burial rites. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, his children and his grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Servant of God, well done. Thy glorious warfare's past, the battle fought, the race is won, and thou are crowned at last.Unit Unknown

- PARKS, Thomas H.,When his country called for defenders, he left his young wife and two children in their newly-made home and hastened to the front. He saw hard service in the raids at Huntsville, Ala; Moulton, Ala., and Newmarket, Tenn. He spent some time with Col. Horner of the 5th Tennessee cavalry as a scout in the Cumberland mountains. He enlisted in Co. B, Fifth Indiana cavalry, but, before the close of the war was transferred to Co. A, where he remained until mustered out of service, Sept. 14, 1865.

HOLADAY, Benjamin Frank; Union Army, Indiana Company F, Regiment 59 Infantry. He served from December 3, 1861 until July 17, 1865. There is a marker in the Vicksburg National Battlefield Park for his Company. Benjamin was born in Orange County, Indiana born November 11, 1834, died June 17, 1880 in Iuka, Illinois. He was the son of William H. and Miriam Hollowell Holaday, both of Orange County, Indiana. His widow, Elizabeth Jane Ellis died April 18, 1920 at Rego, Orange County, Indiana. Only one child survived to adulthood, William Alonzo Holaday, my grandfather. Submitted by Darlene Holaday Burke JONES, William Mc.; he was enrolled on February 22, 1864 at "Vileene," Ind. He mustered in on March 4 or 14, 1864, by a Capt. Brayton in Indianapolis. His nativity is listed as Washington Co., IN, but he can be found in the 1860 Orange Co. census, Stamper's Creek Township, with a wife Mary Jane( Everett) and one daughter Margaret Emma. NOBLITT, John T., was enrolled on the 2nd of Dec., 1861 at Valeene, In on DEC 2, l861 in Company F 59th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers to serve 3 years or during length of war. He was mustered into service on Feb 11. at Gosport, In. He was discharged on May 16, 1865. Prisoner of War records show him captured at Lynch Creek, S.C. On Feb. 25.1865 and paroled at Aiken's Landing, Va. March 3 ,1865, And reported at Annapolis, Md (date not given) Then reported at Camp Chase, Ohio on April 5.1965 and sent to provost marshal April 13,l965, I have a copy of a letter that John T. - BRINER, William H. He is the son of John Briner (b. 1813 PA) that lived in and around Paoli for about ten years and then moved to Daviees County, IN where he had an original Land Patent No. 11351. The Land Patent listed him as a resident of Orange County, IN. William H. Briner was a charter member of GAR Post No. 474 at Odon, IN. He died on April 2, 1919 at 74 years of age.

- THOMAS, Josiah, from an unidentified newspaper clipping: Rev. Josiah Thomas was a native of KY, but most of his life was spent in Orange County; was 35 years when he enlisted and left his bride of 10 years, the former Susan Brengle, in Orange County; when he mustered out he returned to Orange County to farm and preach. The couple had five children, a daughter who died in infancy, Oscar, George W., John Rowan, and Betty. Josiah Thomas died in 1910.
