Notes for CARLOS RAYMOND MARSHALL:

Died 6 months before daughter Goldia was born

Was called Ray.

Carlos Raymond Marshall was born 12-15-1893 and departed this life 1-3-1919 age 25 years and 19 days.   He was united in marriage to Talma Mae Bishop, 11-18-1914 . To this happy union was born one sweet little girl, Audrey Olive, whom he loved and praised so much.   On 12-22 he was stricken with that dreadful disease influenza and pneumonia following. He had been ailing of kidney trouble for some time and his weak heart could not stand much. All was done that could be to relieve his suffering but nothing could save him. It was God's will to take him. He was so patient through his sickness never saying a cross word to anyone. In 1910 he united with the Church of Christ at Big Spring, where his membership still was when he died. He was a great Bible reader and a firm believer in the promises of God always ready to help anyone, was true and honest in all his dealings. Ray, as he was called, was one of the kindest and most patient of husbands and fathers, ever a wife and child had. He is so greatly missed by his grief stricken wife and little daughter, who so tenderly stood by him in his sickness.   A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is still, a place is vacant in our home which never can be filled.

Funeral service was held at Big Spring Sunday the 5th at 11 o'clock conducted by Brother Johns, and then he was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.

Notes for ELI JACKSON HALL:

Eli Jackson Hall, son of James Hall and Opha ( Harmon) Hall was born in

Howard Township on July 5, 1870  and departed this life on March 9, 1952 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 4 days. On April 11, 1888 he confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized under the ministry of Brother Scoulley and united with the Church of Christ at Kansas. He was ordained as Deacon and served for a number of years and on July 14, 1929 was ordained Elder and served in that capacity until his passing. On April 23, 1891, he was united in marriage to Florence Harmon and to this union was born a daughter, Clara. This union was broken by the death of the companion.   He was united in marriage on 2-24-1930 to Talma M. Marshall.  Eli spent his entire life on the little farm near his birthplace tilling the soil and following the carpenter’s trade as long as health would permit.

Later he served as appraiser for the Farmer's Fire Insurance Association until his last illness.   His greatest joy and pleasure was found in serving in his Master's Vineyard. Although the last 18 months of his life were accompanied with the severest of pain, he never lost faith in his maker for he realized that on the other side of the valley there would be no death, no pain nor fear.  His passing, leaves the devoted wife, who so faithfully and efficiently helped to make the burden lighter; the faithful attending daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Gutherie, one brother, Dawson Hall of Tampa, Florida, a step-daughter, Mrs. Lester Rutherford, 7 step-grandchildren Donald L., Rodney V., Larry J. Janet Mae Rutherford; Joyce Lea, Dale C. and Ralph Wayne Lashbrooks, all of whom he dearly loved.   Several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.  Mrs. Lee Lashbrooks, a step-daughter slipped away quietly in her sleep just 24 hours before his passing.   Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11 at 2 pm at Kansas Church by Brother Fred Weisman of French Lick; Burial was in the Kansas Cemetery.

He was a small, quiet man and loved his grandchildren. He had ducks and had to tell them good night before they would go to the chicken house. He played the fiddle/violin. On Sunday afternoons after church people would come to Eli's house and they would all play music and sing. Their front yard would be full of people. He built the house that he and Talma lived in. In 2000 Joyce and her daughter Carla went to the house and the people who lived there were nice enough to let them in. Of course the grapevines, gooseberries, strawberry patch and all of the flowers were no longer there.

But the memories were!!!

30.  GOLDIA CARLOS8 MARSHALL (TALMA MAE7 BISHOP, WILLIAM SHERIDAN ( SHERD)6, MARY ANN5 SMITH, PRISCILLA4 VOYLES, DANIEL B.3, WILLIAM2, JACOB1) was born June 06, 1919 in Washington County, Indiana, and died March 08, 1952 in Milmine, Illinois.  She married COY LEE LASHBROOKS March 12, 1936 in Washington County, Indiana, son of JESSE LASHBROOKS and ANNISE GASS.  He was born September 03, 1917 in Orange County, Indiana, and died November 28, 1973 in Orange County, Indiana.

Notes for GOLDIA CARLOS MARSHALL:

There is a reaper whose name is death and with his sickle keen, He cuts the stubble with a breath, and the flowers that grow between.

And so it was in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8th,1952, this grim reaper came into the home of Lee C. Lashbrooks and took from it the beloved wife and mother in the flower of her youth and womanhood. Goldia C. Marshall, the younger of 2 daughters was born to Raymond and Talma

Bishop Marshall on 6-6-1919. Her father's death on 1-1-1919 preceded her birth. Her childhood was spent in Howard Township where she attended the rural schools, and the high school at Hardinsburg.   She confessed her Savior in early womanhood and united with the Church of Christ at Kansas under the ministry of Brother Moss.   On 3-12-1936 she was married to Lee C. Lashbrooks of Orange Co., IN. To this union was born 2 sons And 1 daughter. Joyce Lea now 11 years old, Dale C. 9 years and Ralph W. 4 years of age. During the early years of their marriage they resided in this and surrounding communities. About 3 years ago they moved to a farm near Decatur, IL. After getting settled in their new home they immediately sought the fellowship of their church, affiliating themselves with the 1042 North Street Church of Christ in Decatur. Here she found work to be done in teaching a class of little children. Following a 3 days illness she died 3-8-1952, having attained the age of 32 years, 9 months and 2 days.

To her passing she leaves her husband and children, her mother and her

step-father who was devoted to her and her family, and who passed away from this life just 24 hours after her death; her sister Olive, now the wife of

Lester Rutherford of Livonia,IN. ,1 step-sister Mrs. Wilbur ( Clara) Guthrie of Madison Township, 1 grandmother, several aunts and uncles and other near relatives and friends.

A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is still.

A place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled.

God in his wisdom has recalled, the loan his love has given

and though the body slumbers here, the soul is safe in Heaven.

THE REST OF THE POEM!!!!!!!

There is a Reaper whose name is Death

And with his sickle keen

He reaps the bearded grain at a breath

And the flowers that grow between.

They shall all bloom in fields of light,

Transplanted by my care,

And Saints upon their garments white

These sacred blossoms wear

And the mother gave in tears and pain

The flowers she most did love.

She knew she should find them all again

In the fields of light above.

Oh not in cruelty, not in wrath,

The Reaper came that day:

'Twas an Angel visited the green earth

And took our mother away.

I have to tell this on my Dad, when we did something wrong my Mother would say “that’s the height of ill manners". One evening we were having a visiting minister for dinner and Mom told Dad not to pour his coffee in his saucer and drink it, it was the height of ill manners!! Well, we all ate and when Mom poured the coffee for the Minister and Dad, what did the minister do but pour his coffee in his saucer and start to drink it. My Dad winked at my Mother and poured his in his saucer and drank.

Notes for JOYCE LEA LASHBROOKS:

My heart taught me that a cemetery is only a scary place until someone you love is laid to rest. It then becomes a place of quiet tasks - grass clippings brushed from a headstone, flowers arranged and rearranged. It becomes a place where you leave the world at the gates and devote time to tender memories.

I can't say too much about myself. I was 5'5' and overweight most of my life.  I liked to read and sew and when I got the hang of the computer I loved that. I had dark brown hair and green eyes and wore glasses after I got older.  I had an outgoing personality but also liked my own company.

Does anyone remember when you were a kid and getting into trouble? I was thinking about my childhood and thought of all the times I got a "switching" and didn't deserve it and then I thought of all the times I did need one and didn't get it!! I thought I was such a good child till I reread the letters my Mother wrote to my grandmother. In one she states that Joyce and Dale ( my brother) were running through the house like a " couple of mules". Another time I was outside and kept taking off my shoes, Mother thought it was still too cold for that so after telling me 3 times( her limit) she came out and tore a little switch off a bush and went for my bare legs. It didn't hurt and I made the mistake of telling her that! Boy, I should have kept my mouth shut!! She got another one and that one did hurt. But to this day, I have a problem keeping my mouth shut!! LOL  And keeping my shoes on.  When I was young and Mother made fudge, I always took the biggest piece.

Mother always said that wasn't polite and she sure taught me a lesson, to this day I won't take the biggest piece of anything!! She made fudge and of course I took the biggest piece. To my surprise when I bit into it, it was full of cotton!! To this day I don't know how she did it but she did!!  Another lesson learned.

Dale and I were jumping out of the barn loft on to a big pile of hay and we were told not to do it again, well......... we waited till Mother was taking care of our little brother and sure enough back to the barn we went!! Just as we jumped, there stood Mother, Busted again. And we had to cut our own switch, such a decision, get one to suit Mother but not hurt too much. But we had better get a good one or she would get one!

Another time I was hanging out clothes for my mother and there was a snake crawling down a tree behind me and I took off running for the house and jumped over the washing machine sitting on the back porch, why I didn't go around it I have no idea.

Mother was a small woman, 4" 11' and weighed 89 pounds, when I was 9 years old I was bigger then she was but that didn't stop her from  "making me mind". We lost her when I was 11 but I still have her in my heart and have lots of good memories!

Notes for WILLIAM HARRISON SCHOBERT SR. DAY:

Spent 3 years in the Army in Korea, then spent 17 years in the Navy on active duty and 10 years in the reserves, was a very good father.

Marriage Notes for JOYCE LASHBROOKS and KENNETH UNDERWOOD: We had an outside wedding because they were so many little children involved. It was wonderful, except for my children's births; it was the best day of my life. I was barefooted as were my granddaughters. 5 of them walked in front of me and the smaller boys were behind me. Lori stood up with me and Paul stood up with Ken. Darrell Land married us. Then we had lunch and we went to the hotel and spent the night.

Notes for DIANNA LYNN ROYER:

Dianna stayed single until she was in her forties, then met her husband on the internet and married, moved to Oregon. Sure do miss her. But she is so happy.   She worked at Pluto Corp. for 7 years and then went to Kimballs and stayed until she married. She took everyone by surprise when she quit Kimballs and went to Oregon. She teaches special children there and Matt drives a school bus.

She and her Mother went on vacations together before she married and they had some good times. Her Mother missed those vacations.

Dianna was blonde with blue eyes and was 5'10" tall and had an outgoing personality.

Notes for WILLIAM HARRISON SCHOBERT JR. DAY:

Was very smart and went to college, getting a degree in Law Enforcement and then deciding he wanted to do something else. Played football in high

school,   He was 6'3" and weighed about 300 pounds but no fat, he lifted weights. He had brown hair (went bald early and kept his head shaved) and brown eyes.   He was a loner and didn't like crowds. He and Josh (nephew) hung out together and he and William (nephew) lived together when they went to the same college. He was a neat freak and his mother called him Mr. Clean.

Harry as he was called had the placental membrane over his face, when a child is said to have been born with a caul over the face. In Celtic societies that would be a sign of the "sight".

Notes for DANNY WESLEY ROYER:

Danny was always a daredevil and broke his elbow when he was 6 falling off a truck. Trucks seemed to be his downfall, even though he drove one for 20+ years! In 1979 he and Christine were in a bad truck wreck and it took 2 hours to cut him and Christine out of the truck. He was in the hospital from 10-18-1979 until 1-1980.

When he was 6 weeks old he cried constantly, I finally figured out he was hungry all the time. I changed his formula and he was fine after that. I was only 15 at the time and am surprised now that I thought of it.  Danny was a teller of tall tales and had us laughing most of the time. He and his brother Butch were "good buddies" all their lives.

Danny was 6'4" and had dark blonde hair and blue eyes. He had an outgoing personality.
