Samuel M. Roberts
Samuel M. Roberts, farmer and stock-raiser, is a son of John and Catherine (Allenduff) Roberts, born March 27, 1846, in Fountain County, Indiana. When Samuel was six years of age, he came with his parents to this township (Grant), and acquired a common-school education; he assisted his father in the work of the farm until he was married, December 23, 1869, to Miss Susanna, daughter of James and Mary Smith, a native of this township. This union was followed by one child - Ella V. After his marriage, Mr. Roberts settled on eighty acres of his present farm, which now comprises 155 acres, all well improved. He is a stanch Republican, and gave his first Presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Roberts is one of the most successful farmers and stock-raisers of Benton County, and also one of the most esteemed citizens. Source: Counties of Warren, Benton, Jasper and Newton, Indiana.
