    Son of Mathias and Elizabeth Knecht; born May 23, 1894, Hartford City, Indiana. Manager of Knecht Milling Company. Entered service march 29, 1918, Hartford City. Sent to Camp Taylor, Kentucky; assigned to 4th Company, 1st Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Overseas in May, 1918; assigned to Headquarters Company, 47th Infantry. Died September 29, 1918 from wounds received in action. Buried in American Cemetery, No. 624, Grave No. 9, Rampont, Meuse, France.
