Enlisted in U.S. Navy December 5, 1917, Hartford City, and was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Illinois. Transferred to Boston, MA, where he died from accidental causes July 29, 1918. Buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Hartford City, Indiana.
