Sent to Camp Taylor, Kentucky; assigned to 22nd Company, 8th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to West Point, Kentucky; assigned to Battery E, 70th Field Artillery. Died of influenza October 8, 1918, Camp Taylor, Kentucky. Buried, Aurora, Indiana. Survived by widow, Ida Witte Steele, Aurora, Indiana.
