    Son of Charles P. and Elizabeth Winkley; born March 10, 1896, Aurora, Dearborn County, Indiana. Clerk. Volunteered his services when the U. S. first entered the War, but rejected because of physical defects. Accepted for service June 15, 1918, Lawrenceburg, Indiana; assigned to Motor School Training, Detachment, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Transferred to Camp Jackson, South Carolina; then to Camp Wadsworth. Died of pneumonia October 9, 1918, Camp Wadsworth, South Carolina. Buried, Aurora, Indiana.
