1862 Draft
Presented in Behalf of the People, To the Jay County Volunteers in the War for the Union as a testimonial for their patriotism and uniform bravery. September, 1864. In 1862 James B. Jaqua was appointed Draft Commissioner for Jay County. He took the first enrollment, and on the 6th of October, 1862, the following persons were drafted for nine months. They were taken to Indianapolis by Provost Marshal Isaac Underwood, where they had the privilege of choosing what volunteer regiment they desired to enter, and were scattered: (those marked with * furnished a substitute.)
