    Son of Charles F. and Hattie M. Ritchey; born February 22, 1895, Canaan, Jefferson County, Indiana. Educated in Hanover College, Madison, Indiana. Teacher. Educated in Hanover College, Madison, Indiana. Teacher. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army November 20, 1917. Sent to Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Transferred to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia; assigned to 22nd Ambulance Company, Medical Detachment. Died of scarlet fever and pneumonia, January 24, 1918. Buried in Bayless Cemetery near Wirt, Indiana. Reported as the first Jefferson County soldier to die in the World War.
