Patton, Medical Detachment, 19th Field Artillery. For gallantry in action near Thiaucourt, France, September 26, 1918, in administering first aid and carrying the wounded to a place of safety under heavy fire.....By command of General Pershing: James G. Division Citation (Silver Star citation superseded by citation from general Headquarters.) General Orders No. 25, Headquarters 5th Division, A. E. F., Army Post Office No. 745, July 8, 1919: The following officers and enlisted men are cited in orders for distinguished conduct in action:......Private Charles W. Patton, Medical Detachment, 19th Field Artillery. On the afternoon of September 26, 1918, came to the assistance of members of Battery D, 19th Field artillery, who had been wounded by intense enemy shell fire on the gun positions of Battery D, 19th Field Artillery. He rendered invaluable service in giving badly needed first aid and in evacuating the wounded to a point of safety, all the while under heavy shell fire. He was entirely oblivious of personal danger and his actions were an example and inspiration for those about him.....By command of Major General Ely: C. A. Trott, Chief of Staff. Official: R. A. Byers, Major, A. G. D., Assistant Division Adjutant.

F.; transferred to Medical Detachment, Base Hospital No. 15; to Medical Detachment, 19th Field Artillery; to Medical Detachment, 14th Machine Gun Battalion. Sergeant, April 26, 1919. Overseas October 3, 1917 -July 22, 1919. Battles: St. Die, St. Mihiel, Toul. Discharged July 30, 1919.
