Eaton W. Paxson

    Eaton W. Paxson was born in Warren County, Ohio, January 13, 1854. His parents, William and Margaret (Shrack) Paxson, natives of Virginia and Pennsylvania respectively, and of Scotch, Irish and German extraction, were married in Warren County, Ohio, in 1853. Thence, three years later, they removed to Greene township, Morgan County, Indiana, and located on a farm of 160 acres, to which the father added 122 acres before his death, which occurred June 26, 1883. The mother is now living on the home farm, seventy-two years of age.

    Eaton W. Paxson is the elder of two sons, and was reared in Green Township, Morgan County, where he received a good education. When twenty years of age, he began teaching school. is first two years he taught in Green Township. He then entered Valparaiso Normal College, and three years later graduated. He is also a graduate of the commercial course there. After this time until June, 1881, he farmed and taught school. He was then elected County Superintendent on the Democratic ticket, and in 1883, having faithfully served his term of office, he was re-elected and at present is in discharge of the duties devolving upon him.

    Mr. Paxson is a member of the A. F. & A. M., of the I. O. O. F., and also of the Encampment. In September, 1875, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Koons, a native of Morgan County, and daughter of James and Rebecca Koons, respected pioneers of Morgan County.
