Distinguished Service Cross. General Orders No. 78, War Department, 1919: In the Bois de Bonvaux, France, September 16-17, 1918, near the Bois des Rappes, France, October 15-16, 1918, and in the Murvaux Valley, France, November 6, 1918. In the Bois de Bonvaux Lieutenant Enochs displayed exceptional bravery in maintaining liaison between his battalion and adjoining units under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. On October 15-16, he was part of a small detachment which advanced to the objective several kilometers beyond the other troops, being completely cut off by the enemy. During the night Lieutenant Enochs led patrols and personally overcame enemy machine gunners. On November 6, this officer maintained a liaison system in advance of our troops despite enemy machine gun fire from the front and flanks.

F., March 6, 1919: First Lieutenant Rex Paul Enochs, 60th Infantry, 5thDivision, displayed great bravery and utter disregard for danger in the Bois de Bonvaux, France, September 16 and 17, by establishing and maintaining liaison in his battalion with adjoining units under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. On October 15 and 16, 1918, this officer exhibited great heroism by leading a small detachment of headquarters 2d Battalion several kilometers beyond other troops and reaching the objective on the northern edge of the Bois des Rappes where they were completely cut off and surrounded by the enemy. During the night Lieutenant Enochs led patrols and personally overcame the enemy machine gunners. On November 6, 1918, at Murvaux, this officer maintained a liaison system in advance of his own troops on the heights on either side of the valley, although under direct machine gun fire from the enemy overlooking him and directly on his flanks.
