    Adopted son of James Ezra and Martha Harriot Martin; born January 20, 1895, Fairbury, Illinois. Came to Sullivan County, Indiana in 1902. Enlisted in U. S. Marines May 17, 1917, Chicago, Illinois. Trained at Parris Island, S. C., and Quantico, Virginia; assigned to 79th Company, 6th Regiment, 4th Division. Transferred to 2nd Division. Overseas in January, 1918. Killed in action June 8, 1918, Chateau Thierry, France. Buried at Bouresches, Aisne, France.
