    Son of Natha D. and Melissa A. Russell; born August 20, 1897, near Carbon, Clay County, Indiana. Moved to Sullivan County in 1893. Farmer. Enlisted in U. S. Regular Army May 3, 1918, Terre Haute, Indiana. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Overseas in April, 1918; assigned to battery E, 18th Cavalry (Battery E, 76th Field artillery) 3rd Division. Wounded October 4, 1918, at Montfaucon, and died the same day. Buried in Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.
