Son of William T. and Mary Crosby Shepherd; born March 4, 1889, near Hymera, Sullivan County, Indiana. Farmer. Entered service September 22, 1917, Sullivan County, Indiana. Sent to Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Overseas July 12, 1918; assigned to Company L, 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Killed in action July 30, 1918 in Chateau-Thierry Sector. Buried in American Cemetery No. 608, Seringes-et-Nesles, Aisne.
