    Son of John Calvin and Laura Elnora West; born June 4, 1894, Eufaula, Alabama. Moved to Cass, Sullivan County, Indiana in 1907. Student at Indiana University. Enlisted in U. S. Regular Army May 4, 1917, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Sent to Vancouver Barracks, Washington; assigned to 14th Infantry (unassigned). Died of spinal meningitis June 7, 1917, Vancouver, Washington. Buried in Hickory Cemetery, Sullivan County, Indiana.
