Rendering first aid under heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, he showed utter disregard for his own personal safety, venturing through shelled areas to the assistance of the wounded. Repeatedly gave first aid in heavy shelled areas when no other help could be given the wounded, and at one time ran through an intense barrage fire to obtain and guide stretcher bearers.
