Dr. Alvis P. Brown
Dr. Alvis P. Brown, physician and surgeon of Heilman, Warrick County, Indiana, is a native of Ohio County, Kentucky, born August 16, 1855, the oldest son born to James F. and Marinda L. (Addington) Brown. He was raised and educated by his parents, and continued at home until his majority, receiving a common school education. Later he attended one year at the Selvin graded school, after which he entered the Evansville Medical College, remaining one year, and having previously read medicine two years under a preceptor, he located first in Skelton Township, but in 1882 purchased property and located permanently at Heilman, where he has a lucrative and increasing practice. Dr. Brown was married November 11, 1880, to Miss Sarah A. Phillips, daughter of Elijah and Mary M. (Simpson) Phillips, and they are the parents of two children: Walter R. (deceased) and Artie M. Mrs. Brown's birth occurred February 12, 1861. Dr. Brown is a Republican in politics, and a gentleman well and favorably known throughout the township.
