John T. Gentry
John T. Gentry, merchant, is a native of the township in which he yet resides, his birth occurring December 17, 1856. He is the fourth in a family of twelve children born to H. and P. C. (Ford) Gentry, who were natives of Warrick County, Indiana, who yet reside herein. John T. represents one of the plucky, independent and enterprising young men of the county. He was raised on a farm in the country, securing a fair education from the public schools. he remained with his parents until twenty years of age, and July 29, 1877, married Miss Belle McKindley, of Crowville, daughter of Dr. James McKindley, deceased, and by her is the father of two children -Laura E. and Odessa. The mother is a member of the Christian Church, of Crowville. Mr. Gentry turned his attention tot school teaching for a time, which he followed with success about six terms. In May, 1883, he embarked in the general merchandise business at Dickeyville, where he has since been Township Assessor since 1882. He is a Democrat and a "jolly good fellow."
