John N. Hamby

    John N. Hamby, one of Lane Township's most progressive and intelligent farmers, was born in the township of which he is now a resident February 4, 1856, and is one of eight children born to the marriage of William J. Hamby, one of the prominent farmers of Warrick County, and Sarah Ann McNealey, both natives of the Hoosier State.

    John N. received the advantages to be derived from the district schools, and until nineteen years of age made his home with his parents. March 9, 1875, Miss Roy, daughter of Leonard Roy, a prominent citizen of Pike County, Indiana, became his wife, and to their union a family of five children have been born, of whom the following are living: William Jasper, Remus Arthur and Ernest F.

    Mr. Hamby is a Democrat in politics, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Pleasantville, in Pike County, and is the owner of forty acres of good land which he keeps fairly stocked and under an average state of cultivation. He and wife are among the best citizens of the township.
