    Son of George M. and Anna Levertt (Scales); born January 5, 1896, Reed, Henderson County, Kentucky. (Home of mother, Newburg, Warrick County, Indiana). Farmer. Enlisted in U. S. Regular Army January, 1915, Evansville, Indiana. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Transferred to Ft. Monroe, Virginia; assigned to Company C, Coast Artillery Corps, 60th Division. Sailed overseas April, 1918. Died October 15, 1918, from wounds received in action. Buried, "Somewhere in France."
