Joseph H. McGlothlin

    Joseph H. McGlothlin, druggist and grocer, of Selvin, Warrick County, Indiana, is a native of Sumner County, Tennessee, born June 1, 1847, a son of Isaac and Martha (House) McGlothlin, residents of Tennessee, where they died in 1862.

    Joseph being left an orphan at an early age was compelled to make his way through life as best he could. He received a fair education from the common schools, and at the age of seventeen enlisted in Company D, One Hundred and Forty-Third Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, serving until the close of the war, and was discharged at Indianapolis in October, 1865.

    After the war, he returned to Warrick County, and April 7, 1870, was married to Miss Eliza J. Harper, daughter of George W. and America (Kitchen) Harper, and to them have been born the following named children: Willie S., Martha A. P., Isaac E., Dora E., Mala and one that died in infancy.

    Mr. McGlothlin followed farming from 1865 until the fall of 1880, when he engaged in his present business, and now owns his dwelling and store property, and enjoys a good and increasing trade. In politics he is an Independent, and served the people of Pigeon Township one term as Justice of the Peace, and is one of the substantial and esteemed citizens of the township.
