Charles L. Rhodes

    Charles L. Rhodes, was born in Anderson Township, Warrick County, Indiana, April 11, 1834, the second in a family of four children born to the marriage of Solomon and Mary (Hedges) Rhodes, who were also natives of this county. Henry Rhodes, grandfather of Charles L. was a soldier in the Revolutionary war and came to this State from Kentucky where Solomon Rhodes was born.

    Charles L. remained at home and assisted his parents on the farm until nineteen years old, receiving such education as the schools of that day afforded. November 18, 1853, his marriage with Nancy Johnson was solemnized and to them have been born eight children, these seven yet living: Viola (Mrs. Jacob Lang), John H., Kate S. (Mrs. William Carter), Robert R., Ida F., Johnson E. and Maude M.

    Mr. Rhodes has made farming his occupation through life and has made it a success. He owns at present 400 acres of well improved land and pays considerable attention to stock-raising. He has been County Commissioner one term, being elected by the Democratic party, is a member of the Masonic fraternity and he and wife are members of the General Baptist Church. His son, John H., is attending school at Valpariso, Indiana, and will graduate in the classical course of the Northern Indiana Normal School in August, 1885.
