Dr. Elias A. West
Dr. Elias A. West, a native of Warrick County, Indiana, was born June 5, 1848, in Pigeon Township, and is the second of thirteen children born to the marriage of Jesse West and Jane Scales, who were also natives of this county, their respective birth occurring January 6, 1829 and February 9, 1830. Jesse West, having passed his life engaged in farming, now resides in Lane Township, the owner of a valuable farm. Dr. West made his home with his parents until eighteen years old and during this time secured a good common school education. In 1866 he began the harness and saddlery trade in Gentryville, which he continued eighteen months, when he attended school one year longer. The spring of 1870 he began working at his trade in Folsomville, but in 1873 began the study of medicine which he continued with diligence for some time. In 1874 he opened an office for the practice of medicine in Bloomfield, Spencer County, but in 1875 removed to Pleasantville, Pike County, where he remained five years. In 1878 and 1879 he attended the Evansville Medical College, and in 1880 moved to Summerville, Gibson County. In December, 1884, he moved to Folsomville, where he has since resided engaged in medical pursuits. November 13, 1872, he wedded a sister of George W. Roberts, named Alzada A., who was born September 2, 1852. Three children have been born to them as follows: Lillie May (deceased), Minnie F. and Georgie. The mother is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. West is an Odd Fellow and a good citizen.
