Wheaton, 97thCompany, 6th Marines.....distinguished themselves for bravery as battalion runners, displaying fearless devotion to duty, surpassing all ordinary standards, and for six days and nights made liaison possible, ever volunteering to carry and gain information, and with practically no rest for six days and night continually risking their lives in crossing fields swept with machine-gun and artillery fire.....By command of Major General Lejeune: Hu B. Myers, Colonel, Chief of Staff. Croix de-Guerre with bronze star (France).
