Mrs. J. H. Barnes, 81, native of Labette County, Kansas a resident of
this community 39 years died Tuesday night in Murry Memorial Hospital where she
had been a patient the past 4 days. She had been in failing health for
sometime.
Mrs. Barnes came from her native Labette County 39 years ago to make her home
with her 3 sons in the community, Riley Barnes of southeast of town where she
lived, Orville Barnes now county under sheriff, and Ott Barnes in Westview
Gardens. In her younger years she was very active in the Methodist Church
and in farm clubs in the community. Her husband died in Labette County in
1899. The late Mrs. Dean Magar was a daughter in addition to her 3 sons.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ten grandsons are in military service now.
The Rev. O. Roy Cook, Methodist minister will be in charge of the
service. Burial in Maple Grove.
