Riley R. Barnes
Riley R. Barnes, 81, longtime Ford county resident died Wednesday night in
Trinity Hospital. He was born September 6. 1883 at Cherryvale the son of
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Barnes.
He came in 1908 to a farm near Spearville. Mr. Barnes and Miss Emma Grace
Perkins were married at Spearville, December 20, 1908; they lived for a time on
land he had homesteaded in Grant County and returned after a few years to a farm
near Spearville.
They lived there until 1929 then moved to a farm southeast of Dodge
City. Mrs. Barnes death was February 12, 1952. Mr. Barnes moved into
Dodge City in 1957 but farmed until July of 1964, when he retired.
He was a member of the Ford Methodist Church of the local Masonic Lodge and had
been a member of the old Blue Bell School Board.
Survivors include five sons, Floyd, Wayne, Glenn, Marvin, Merle all of Dodge
City; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The funeral has been set for 2 p. m. Saturday in the chapel of the
Hulpieu-Swaim Funeral Home with the Rev. Gordon Morris officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with rites by the local Masonic
Lodge.
