[Israel Grant] ROBINSON, 38, from Centurion Lodge No. 100, at his home in [Williamstown] Tuesday, December 26, 1893; short illness with pneumonia; married Miss Mollie HAGGARD October 6, 1884; was principal of Williamstown Graded Free School since January 1890; survived by widow and aged parents, and brothers.

Marriage license granted by county clerk to J. A. FRAKES and Miss Mattie BURGESS; will be married at the home of Dallas CROUCH today.

Death of Mrs. Lucy CARTER at her Owensboro, Kentucky home, last week; was wife of Edward CARTER, a brother of Mrs. Lucy H. JOHNSON, deceased, who lived near Downingsville.

Married at the home of bride's parents near Doudton, December 27, Miss Mollie BONAR to Nick NORTHCUTT.

R. B. TURNER, candidate for Grant County Assessor, was born in Owen County 47 years ago; married Miss Kate HENDRICKS of Owen County; have three children - Samuel, Eva, and John.

1. Death of Mrs. J. B. ROLAND, at her home last Wednesday; funeral held at Methodist Church Thursday by Rev. COBB.
2. Uncle Billy ANNESS, 94, died last Wednesday at his home.
3. Death of Little Commodore HUTCHESON Monday.
4. Death of Uncle Billy MARTIN, one of the largest land owners in this part of the county, after several weeks of sickness; his wife is very low and not expected to recover.

Dry Ridge News - Death of Mattie, 8, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Straud MUNSON, December 30, 1893, of diphtheria; buried in the family burying ground at Cordova.

F. F. NESBITT, 72, of Warsaw, is visiting his son, cashier C. C. NESBITT of Williamstown.

Death of Mrs. Back ROBERTS of Macedonia, Iowa, formerly Miss Lizzie NESBITT, at her home Tuesday of this week of dropsy; only sister of C. C. NESBITT; leaves husband and several small children.

Suicide of Kate MENEFEE, wife of Dr. A. V. MENEFEE, and daughter of Joseph FRANKS of Stewartsville, by taking strychnine; hastily written note found - "I want to die, so I take this means of ending my life." Burial on Tuesday, December 26, 1893 from the home of Jerry PETTIT at New Eagle Mills.

Death of James M. ANDERSON on Thursday, December 27, 1893, at his home near Crittenden; was born in Boone County, Ky., July 15, 1829; moved to Grant County in November 1871; Presbyterian at Lebanon Church; married Miss Lizzie SPICER of Franklin County (sister of late Rev. T. A. SPICER) December 7, 1895; leaves wife, one son, and two daughters; funeral preached at Lebanon by his pastor, Bro. COCKRAN.

Emmet ORR, editor of the Owen News, issued his paper from the home office last week, the first time since the fire which destroyed his plant some three months ago.

Born to the wife of Lewis WALDEN, on Saturday, January 13, a boy.

Born to the wife of Louis LUCAS, of Dry Ridge, on the 11th, a boy, 11-1/2 pounds.

George WASHER of near Holbrook was adjudged a lunatic and taken to asylum at Anchorage; he lost his mind recently from fever and la grippe; leaves a helpless family.

Mrs. B. N. ELLISTON of Dry Ridge disappeared from her home last Monday, but was found Tuesday in a demented condition; asked her sister for a butcher knife; was feared she may have committed suicide.

Hardscrabble citizens cleaned off the old CLARK burying ground near that place; is one of the oldest graveyards in the county, the first person buried there nearly 75 years ago and more than 200 people have been buried there.

Mrs. Gertrude BISHOP, 33, wife of J. W. BISHOP, died at her home in Dark County, Ohio of consumption a short time ago; leaves a husband, one daughter and three sons; her husband is the son of D. H. and Nancy BISHOP  of this county.

Death of Mrs. E. A. PARISH, 86, aged mother of Eugenia SIMMONS [about 60], at her home on Parish Street last Friday of la grippe; burial at Georgetown, Kentucky cemetery on Sunday; was married three times but survived her husbands; daughter is only survivor to receive considerable property.

Died at Landers, Illinois, December 29, 1893, May, only daughter of Allen and Margarette HOUSTON, aged 35 years, 7 months and 12 days; born in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 17, 1858; her mother was the daughter of the late Rev. Wm. SECHREST of Grant County, who married Allen October 3, 1852; survived by her parents.

In Pendleton County, James RATCHFORD, the murderer of Martin FINN about three weeks ago, has been sentenced to the penitentiary for life. [see 1893]

Cassius C. CRAM, candidate for re-election as County Judge, was born in Kenton County, Kentucky, October 7, 1847 and is now 47; oldest child of 11 born to Willard and Maria McDONALD CRAM; at 8 moved to Goforth, Pendleton County; in 1873 he married Mrs. Armenia D. SANFORD of Pendleton County, the youngest daughter of Capt. Joseph DAUGHERTY; have 2 boys and 2 girls.

Hon. D. S. [Demetris] CLAY, candidate for County Judge, was born in 1848 in this county; his father, Elijah S. CLAY, was Pendleton County native and farmer; his mother was Mary CLAY, also Pendleton native; his father died in 1859 leaving large family; was of Virginia descent to Henry and Cassius CLAY; at 16 he married Sarah A. MARKSBERRY, daughter of Arasha and Martha MARKSBERRY and granddaughter of the celebrated scout, warrior and pioneer, Simon KENTON; his wife died in 1877, leaving 5 children; married the second time in 1886 to Miss Emma CALLEN of Kenton County.

Died on last Wednesday, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isom SANDERS. Isom was sick and not able to attend the funeral.

Death of Mrs. McGLASSON, aged invalid living near town with her two daughters, last Thursday; buried Friday; "her only means of keeping soul and body together was the hard labor of her two daughters."

Death of Jed ASHCRAFT at his home last Wednesday of lingering consumption; buried Friday in Williamstown Cemetery; 40 years old; married twice; leaves wife and four children; two sons and two daughters; sick for twelve months.

"Uncle" Jesse ROBINSON of Mason is the oldest man in Grant County, being 91 on the 4th day of February; has 149 descendants: 14 children, 78 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, very active and cheerful still; loves a good joke; having been married twice, the birthday of his deceased and present wife fall on the same day; his birthday and his oldest child's fall on the same day; he and his eldest son married sisters.

Death of George WASHER at Lexington asylum last week, where he was sent three weeks previous.

Richard JACKSON, son of Isaac JACKSON, was adjudged of unsound mind and ordered sent to the Lexington asylum, where he had been before.

Drowning of John PETTIT, 19, of New Eagle Mills, in Eagle Creek, January 31; was going to set up with his friend, Ballard PERCIVAL, who had died of pneumonia; father, T. J. and mother PETTIT survive. [see previous issue]

H. M. [Hamp] SPILMAN, died Saturday after a few days of illness.

Death of Mrs. Abbie ALEXANDER at the home of her son-in-law, J. H. WEBSTER, on Sunday in her 79th year; "Aunt" Abbie was widow of J. H. ALEXANDER who died about 8 years ago.

Death of Rev. Charlie CARTER of the Christian Church, at the home of Ninnian CARTER in this county last week; consumption for several months; funeral at [Williamstown] Christian and buried in [presumably, the Williamstown] Cemetery.

Obituary - Mary BEVERLY, wife of John BEVERLY, deceased, died January 9, 1894, aged 89 years, 9 months, and 27 days; maiden name was SIPPLE; married John BEVERLY in 1823; he died September 4, 1869; was Methodist; read without glasses in her 80's; was mother of 11 children, 6 of whom are dead; had 32 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Fairview News - Henry TOMLIN called to bedside of his mother near Knoxville who is not expected to live.

Mason News - Born February 5 to the wife of W. T. SLEETE, a girl.

Zion, this county, February 4, 1894; was born November 23, 1813; was 89 years, 2 months, and 11 days old at her death; was married November 10, 1831 to James H. ALEXANDER who died a few years ago; leaves 3 sons and 3 daughters; funeral and burial Tuesday, the 6th, beside her husband in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Miss Emma MERRILL was adjudged a lunatic and taken to the Lexington asylum.

Wm. L. ALLPHIN of Central, Illinois is visiting his brother, H. Z. ALLPHIN, near Holbrook; he is the oldest of the boys.

B. O. GOUGH and Miss L. J. CARR will be married at the Baptist Church at Stewartsville today by Rev. McMILLAN; after honeymoon in Cincinnati, they will return to keep house.

2. Miss Maud EDWARDS and Thos. GAUGE are to be married in the near future.

Mt. Zion News - "Uncle" Jimmie Smith was 90 years old on the 19th.

Report of death of Mrs. Molly PETTY in last week's Corinth Independent by self-inflicted pistol shot is wrong; she died however, and was buried beside her baby who preceded her but a short time. [see next issue]

Corinth News - The body of W. P. PARRISH, late of Mt. Sterling, arrived here Monday with his wife and their son, Rev. Alex RED, for burial and funeral at Corinth Methodist Church Tuesday; recently moved to live with their daughters.

1. Marriage of Thos. FITCH, about 35, and Mrs. R. P. WILLIAMS, 47, widow of the late Johnathan WILLIAMS, last Thursday.

Death of Uriah Cebury ALLPHIN at Crittenden, Grant County, February 23, 1894, aged 78 years, 2 months, and 20 days; born in Boone County, Kentucky near Big Bone Springs, December 13, 1815; was named in honor of the captain under whom his father had fought against the British and Indians; lived most on his Gallatin County, Kentucky farm and amassed a fortune; married 3 times, his last wife being Mrs. America MARR, who survives; his first marriage blessed with four daughters and one son, who all died when quite young; funeral held at Concord Baptist Church, Gallatin County and buried beside his two wives and children.

Born February 22 to the wife of William WARE, a 10 pound boy.

Death of Robert STROUD last Tuesday of pneumonia; buried Wednesday at Williamstown Cemetery; was 33, unmarried and spent most of life in Williamstown; survived by mother, sister, and brother.

Marriage of Thomas, son of J. W. CHIPMAN of near town, last Thursday, to Miss Florence HICKS of Mason; will make home home with T. L. CLARK.

Death of Mrs. Rachel GREGORY, 74, of near town, at her home Monday the 26th, of la grippe; funeral was Tuesday at home of her son-in-law, W. L. STEPHENS; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Mason News - Mrs. John M. POWELL nearly burned to death by gasoline from a stove; her husband and brother-in-law, Charley JONES, were burned badly a few days ago.

Mt. Zion News - Died, Miss Sallie POINTS, daughter of late John POINTS, on Saturday, 24th; buried at Lebanon.

Cordova News - Death of little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. MARDIS a few days ago of scarlet fever.

In Memory of Mollie HALL, 25 years and 10 months old, eldest daughter of H. C. HALL, who died on the 9th; her baby, Ferol, 6 months old preceded her in death a few weeks before; signed, "One who loved her."

Leonard McGLASSON, candidate for Magistrate, was born in Kenton County, Kentucky nearly 67 years ago; his father was James McGLASSON and his mother war Jurida HUFFMAN; they were Virginians who moved to Grant County in 1831; on November 28, 1852 he married Martha A. DILLARD who is living; they have a boy, Perry, and a girl who is the wife of Millard GOUGE of Mason.

Death of Mrs. Fountain HAYDEN, 67, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. HILL, Wednesday, February 28; husband died here last fall and is buried in Frankfort where she was laid in the family burying ground Thursday; paralyzed for over 20 years and suffered greatly.

Death of D. B. PRICE at Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, Tuesday; paralysis; burial today in Williamstown Cemetery by Oddfellows; formerly of Grant County; survived by wife. [see next issue]

Chill BROWN JR., druggist at Crittenden, poisoned himself early last week and is not expected to live; was shortly to have been married.

Thomas CORNELIUS of Sherman lost his first born by accidental burning a year ago; then his wife of 4 years died last Friday of consumption and was buried at Mt. Zion Saturday; leaves a babe about one year old.

BROWN concerning the death of Chill BROWN Jr. on March 7, 1894 after a few days illness, was not due to poisoning, purposely or accidentally, but was due to a chill taken March 3; he was not a drunkard as rumored; he died of meningitis - inflammation of the brain membranes. In Memoriam of Douglas B. PRICE, born in Woodford County, Kentucky, May 6, 1842; married his first wife, a Miss JONES of Midway, while still residing in Woodford; she bore him one son and died; he came to Grant County, married second, Mrs. Pauline ZINN, widow of John W. ZINN, deceased; she survived him; he died unconscious with paralysis in Cynthiana, Wednesday, March 7, 1894. [see previous issue]

Died on March 11 , 1894 at her home near Williamstown, Mrs. Mary H. SHERIFF, daughter of J. P. and Katie EVANS; suffered 10 weeks from abscess of the lungs; born June 19, 1837; married Hugh T. SHERIFF in May 1856; had 5 girls; funeral held at her home March 12, 1894; buried near her home; survived by five daughters, six brothers, and one sister.

Death of "Aunt" Susan, wife of "Uncle" Jesse ROBINSON, at her Mason home, March 13, 1894, after illness of three months from heart trouble and paralysis; was born May 18, 1814, being 75 years, 9 months, and 29 days old at death; married Jesse ROBINSON July 27, 1837, who survives; funeral at Grassy Run Church, this county, on the 14th; eight children survive.

Died on last Friday after a 15 month illness of consumption, Alburn, 34, son of James and Julia A. WALLACE; married Miss Kate RANKIN August 27, 1884, who died January 8, 1886; one child born to them lives; he married second, Miss Jennie BENNETT, October 29, 1891, who survives; funeral and burial in Williamstown Cemetery Sunday.

H. O'Hara; [later adjudged as manslaughter].

Kentucky Governor John Young BROWN has offered a $150 reward for the arrest of W. T. STEPHENSON, who is charged with the murder of W. T. JUMP near Holbrook last May [1894].

MOORE, of Scotland County, Missouri, Mrs. Margaret DRAPER and Mrs. Nancy WELLS, both of Pendleton County, Ky.; about 1847 she married Robert MAKEMSON near Morgan Station; no issue from this marriage; he is dead; her father, Andrew BROWN was a native of Westmoreland County, Virginia, on the Potomac; her mother was Frances MITCHELL, of same place; her grandmother was Margaret SANFORD, also of Virginia; her grandfather BROWN was a soldier in the war of '76; her first husband, Wm. MOORE was born near Pleasant Green Church in Bourbon County, Ky. and his father was from Virginia; she was of medium height, black eyes, and firm form; buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery; Pendleton County, Ky. on Sunday, September 21, where she was member; writer is a great niece, Mrs. H. H. ASHCRAFT.

Keefer News - The little son [Cleveland] of Mrs. PENN, who was accidentally shot by Frank BROCK, died a few days ago.

Mother and child [Harriet BUTLER, colored] reunited. The latter is from Williamstown and she left for Memphis, Tennessee to meet her mother, 63, who was sold in the days of slavery.

Mt. Zion had two deaths last Saturday - "Aunt" Eliza TOMLIN, wife of the late Rev. Asa TOMLIN and [B. G.] Guy BEACH, grandson of Mrs. BEACH; they were buried Sunday.

Obituary of Eliza TOMLIN who died at the old home in this county last Saturday, the 17th; was wife of Elder Asa TOMLIN; was born July 6, 1819, being 75 years, 4 months, and 11 days old at death; March 21, 1839, she was married to Rev. Asa Tomlin, Baptist, who died 5 years before; funeral was Sunday, the 18th; buried beside her husband at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Born to the wife of Henry BONAR on the 18th, a boy. Dr. N. S. MATTHEWS attending physician.

In Memoriam - Guy BEACH, son of W. W. and Kate BEACH, after lingering consumption, died at his grandmother's ("aunt" Pop SMITH's) near Mt. Zion, Saturday, aged 28 years, 7 months, and 29 days; was married September 1, 1890 to Miss May SMITH, of Kansas City, Missouri; young wife survives; buried at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Death of Homer WESTOVER Monday morning at his daughter's house where he lived for 20 years; was oldest Williamstown citizen; in his 88th year; born January 6, 1807 at Green River, Austerlits County, New York; son of Johnathan WESTOVER; married Rebecca SMITH at Jamestown, Pennsylvania, where several of his oldest children were born; moved to Williamstown in 1845; leaves 4 surviving children:  J. E. WESTOVER, of Corinth, Ky., R. W. WESTOVER, of Dallas, Texas, W. H. WESTOVER and Mrs. D. J. CHARBONNEAU, of Williamstown; 24 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Julia COALSTON was adjudged a lunatic and was sent to the Anchorage asylum.

Death of Jack NUXALL, 63, last Sunday at his home near Cartersville; buried Monday at Williamstown Cemetery.
