Mason News:
1. Miss Maggie DALY, daughter of Cornelius DALY, is home for the holidays from attending school at Lexington.
2. Uncle Dick JONES was stricken with paralysis sometime ago, from which he died last week. His remains were interred in the Dunn Burying Ground.

Elliston News - Ezra WEBSTER and Miss Halla STURGEON were married at the residence of the bride's parents by Rev. Tom B. WEBSTER.

Americus VALLANDINGHAM died at his home near Mt. Zion at one o'clock a.m. last Sunday, January 5, from heart disease; was son of William and Parthena VALLANDINGHAM; was born in this county January 20, 1843; he married Miss Maggie MANN who survives him, on September 14, 1865, moving in the spring to the place where he died; was commonly called "Mec"; funeral preached by G. W. HILL in the Baptist Church at Mt. Zion; buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Jesse HOPKINS and Miss Abasha GARDNER were united in marriage at the residence of the bride's parents near Mt. Zion January 2, 1896. Rev. G. W. HILL of Williamstown, officiating.

Mrs. Adelia ROBERTS, of Constance, Ky., visited her mother, Mrs. E. J. PACK.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles NICHOLSON, of Nicholson, Ky., visited her father, U. HARRISON, who has partial paralysis.

Mrs. Julia A. COLLINS, widow of the late John A. COLLINS, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. WITHROW, at Midway, on January 1, 1896, and was brought here and interred in Williamstown Cemetery on the 2nd. She was a sister of Uncle Bryan CLARK, and was 78 years of age at the time of her death.

Biographical sketch of Rev. G. W. HILL; pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 12 years; was born in Owen County, April 8, 1848 and is nearly 48 years old; is the oldest son born to W. H. and N. J. HILL (nee SMITH), both native Kentuckians of Virginia descent; October 30, 1877, he married Miss Elizabeth HAYDEN, of Franklin County; to this union, 8 children - 4 boys and 4 girls, all of whom are living; he was ordained a Baptist minister on September 15, 1882.

In memory of Clarence Elzie ROBINSON, son of Squire and Mollie ROBINSON, who died of diphtheria November 24, 1895, aged 6 years, 8 months, and 5 days; poem follows, referring to "a brother", signed by Dora ROBINSON, Mason, Ky.

Young Dr. W. G. BAKER, a dentist of Dry Ridge, is missing - murder, suicide or faking - which? He was in love with Miss Annie ASWERUS, a Dry Ridge teacher. It turns out that the doctor left briefly for Science Hill to pull teeth, as a joke.

Sherman News - Mrs. Georgia BANNISTER and little daughter, Helen, of Covington, are visiting relatives.

Willard G. CRAM Jr., son of our grocer, E. T. CRAM, has abandoned the study of law and will [likely take up preaching].

Flingsville News - Isabelle, little daughter of Thos. and Dora DICKERSON, died of whooping cough and pneumonia.

In Memory of L. C. BRADLEY, who died December 17, 1895, with typhoid fever; buried in the Pettit Burying Ground; was a son of C. W. BRADLEY and a son-in-law of W. A. PETTIT; he married Miss Emma Lee PETTIT September 9, 1886; leaves a wife and little boy 6 years old; he was about 28; funeral at Macedonia [Baptist Church near Jonesville?] on Sunday, January 12, 1896.

Miss Minnie WALMAN, of Holbrook, is visiting her uncle, Robert SIMPSON.

Mrs. George M. SHIELDS and son, of Covington, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. WARE, near town.

Miss Marietta GOUGE, of Alexandria, Indiana, visited her sister, Mrs. James A. LITTELL.

Denny BLACKFORD, of Keene, Jessamine County, and his cousin, Miss Jessie MUSSELMAN visited relatives.

Mrs. Romania LOWE is the mother of another girl baby, weight 10 pounds.

Sanford DAUGHERTY, of Goforth, brother-in-law of County Clerk, E. D. WEBSTER, is recovering from a bad rupture.

A boy born to Mrs. Louis LUCAS (nee WARE).

A girl born to Mrs. Frank LOWE (nee SPARKS).

Death and a birth in the same family on the same day, in the home of WOSTER TANNER, a few days ago:
1. Death of his next oldest son, John TANNER, of fever and possibly consumption; buried in the old Tanner Burying Ground on the headwaters of Coopertown Creek.
2. Birth of a boy, the same evening, by his wife.

J. B. ALEXANDER, after serving 2 years in the penitentiary for the killing of W. H. McCLURE, of Crittenden, is at home again after being pardoned by outgoing Democratic Governor BROWN.

The brother of C. W. TANNER's father recently died in Fleming County, having no children; when his wife dies, the estate will be divided among the 3 brothers of the dead uncle, of which Dr. TANNER was one. [wife likely to die at any time]

Marriage of Dr. Lee TULLY and Miss Emma BUNNER, of Louisville, where they were married at the home of the bride's parents Thursday evening, January 9; he is son of Harrison TULLY, of Williamstown; marriage a surprise to all; report in the Warsaw Independent.

Marriage of E. B. ROGERS and Miss Josie B. LITTELL New Year's night at the home of the bride's aunt, Miss GOUGE, on West John Street, by Rev. C. E. KIRCHER, of the First Presbyterian CHurch; will reside at corner of John and West Streets, in Alexandria, Indiana.

Biographical sketches of J. H. WEBB and J. W. WEBB who have the oldest business Institution in Williamstown (34 years) carried on in the same house (dry goods and clothing); just last year, J. H. took his nephew, J. W. WEBB, into partnership:
1. J. H. WEBB was born in Stokes County, North Carolina, June 19, 1826; will be 70 next June; was oldest of 5 sons born to William and Elizabeth WEBB: the other four brothers live within a few miles of Williamstown; 49 years ago, J. H.'s father migrated from North Carolina to Kentucky, settling at Cordova, Grant County; William WEBB Sr. was a farmer of English descent and died in 1864; one June 6, 1861, J. H. married Miss Corneal STROUD, to whom was born 6 children, all living: Dr. A. D. WEBB, R. L. WEBB, Frank WEBB, Mrs. Clay CONRAD, Miss Nettie WEBB and Miss Laura WEBB.
2. J. W. WEBB, "Jim", is the second son and third child of William F. WEBB and Elizabeth Dean (REED) WEBB; was born April 24, 1859; was born in Stringtown, Grant County, but later his father moved to Williamstown; he married February 15, 1888 to Miss Minnie BARBOUR, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. BARBOUR, to whom four children have been born: 3 boys and 1 girl, all living - Edward, Viola, Floyd, and Halloween [that is correct! --Abstractor].

Sherman News - Larkin BROWN, an aged citizen of Crittenden, died last Thursday morning.

Sherman News - Mrs. Dr. BANISTER, of Covington, visited her grandfather, Wm. POINTS.

Hon. Oscar TURNER, the distinguished lawyer and Congressman, died on Wednesday the 22nd at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. J. ADAMS, in Louisville.

Stewartsville - on last Sunday Charles A. BRADEN was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma FLEGE, widow of Henry FLEGE deceased.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Tom WOLFE attended the funeral of his uncle, T. L. BROWN, at Crittenden last Friday.

I. R. FRANKS ordered the paper to be sent to his son, W. W. FRANKS, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Biographical sketch of Hon. Herman D. STRATTON; was born in Ross County, Ohio, September 10, 1822 and is in his 74th year; his parents, Eli and Joan STRATTON, were New York natives, who moved from Delaware County to Ohio in 1805; friends call him Esquire STRATTON; came to Kentucky in 1850 and has lived in Grant County and Williamstown; he married June 17, 1851, to Miss Susan PENICK of this county; 3 children born, all living: William P., Ruth, and Mrs. J. H. HUMLONG; served in Mexican War with General SCOTT.

Whitman D. ROBERTS and Miss Nannie WILSON, daughter of Dr. J. M. WILSON, were married in Lexington, last Saturday by Rev. McELROY.

J. H. POOR, of Kenton County, visited his son, C. H. POOR.

Mrs. E. L. GARVEY and daughter, of Erlanger, visited her sisters, Mrs. W. C. JOHNSON and Mrs. Karl S. FRANK.

Willie SMITH is the little 10 year old daughter of Mrs. Lily SMITH, of Woodland Avenue, Lexington, and a niece of Mrs. William BRASFIELD.

Died - Thomas Larkin BROWN, on the morning of January 23, 1886 [in error: misprint, should be 1896] at 8:30 o'clock; was born in Scott County, Kentucky near the "Great Crossing" on June 6, 1816 and was 79 years old June 6, 1895; his parents were Thomas and Mary BROWN, who came from Culpeper County, Virginia at an early date, settling first in Scott County and afterwards in Grant County near Crittenden; Larkin was 7th of 9 children; married November 1, 1839 to Mary ROSE, daughter of Lewis and Martha ROSE, of Mercer County, Kentucky; is survived by his widow and 3 children: the eldest, Mrs. Annie E. CALDWELL, second, Dr. J. H. BROWN, and third, Robert BROWN; carried mail by stage from Crittenden and Cincinnati; was in bad health for 20 years; funeral by Rev. Lafayette JOHNSON at the Christian Church January 24, 1896. [signed] L. F.

Dr. A. G. ELLISTON is arraigned for the killing of R. A. DICKERSON at Elliston last summer; synopsis of the testimony given. Photos of the lawyers involved: W. C. P. BRECKINRIDGE, Capt. A. G. DeJARNETTE, Ex-Congressman W. W. DICKERSON, and Commonwealth Attorney M. D. GRAY. One witness, A. J. WILLIAMS, stated, "I have lived at Elliston since October, 1869. My first wife was a sister of Dr. Gil ELLISTON." Harry DICKERSON: Am 10 years old. Lived at Elliston when R. A. DICKERSON, my father, was killed. Dr. A. G. ELLISTON: I am 25 years old, son of J. D. ELLISTON, of Elliston. My mother was a sister of J. T. and Dr. I. W. McGINNIS. Both are dad. Father died August 7 [1895].

Miss Anna SCOTT, daughter of J. T. SCOTT, is attending a private Seminary in Covington, Ky.

Last Will of James T. WILLIS was admitted to probate last Monday; witnessed by Dr. W. C. JOHNSON and Dr. J. D. VIOLETTE; one page long; all property bequeathed to widow, Alice V. WILLIS, who waived her rights to D. C. POINTS to be administrator.

Hon. William POINTS, first President and its largest depositor and stockholder, was born near Mt. Zion, Grant County, March 8, 1813 [March 18, 1811]; married Margarette [Margaret] FRANKS in 1838 [October 8, 1838] and fathered 16 children.

President Lara CAVANAGH was born in county of Witchlow, Ireland, in 1832, 30 miles from Dublin; family of 5 girls and 3 boys, all dead except Lara and his two sisters; came to U. S. in 1850 and to Williamstown in 1851; is a bachelor.

Vice-President R. H. O'HARA was born in Owen County in 1839; in 1868 he married Miss Martha JOHNSON of Grant County; has 2 children: C. E. and J. A. O'HARA.

Cashier C. C. NESBITT was born near Dry Ridge, Grant County, on April 10, 1853; all of his life spent here; married to Miss Zella O'HARA in 1886, to whom 2 children have been born: Anna and Martha; known as Clarence.

R. F. LEMON, book-keeper, is the only son of J. A. LEMON; was born August, 1870 and is not yet 26.

Director D. C. POINTS, 34, is the youngest son of Hon. William POINTS, born and reared on the old Points homestead near Sherman; joint editor of the Williamstown Courier for more than 7 years; married, in 1885 [September 21, 1887], to Miss Clara CUNNINGHAM, to whom 2 boys and 1 girl have been born.

Director J. W. CHIPMAN is a son of William and Mary A. (JEWIT) CHIPMAN; is one of 12 children, 7 of whom still live; was 51 last November; he married Miss Ellen WALLACE and, by this marriage have 6 children, one of whom is dead; was born, reared, and lived on Eagle Creek; lives in Williamstown now.

Director R. P. CONRAD is a son of Hon. Isaac B. CONRAD, who died a few years ago; there were 4 boys and 3 girls; 1 boy and a girl are dead [of his siblings]; Robert is about 40; married Miss Elizabeth RENAKER, to whom a boy has been born; known as "Bob."

Director E. D. WEBSTER was born on the waters of Ten Mile Creek on June 10, 1848; is a son of Pendleton G. WEBSTER and from a family of 10 children, 3 of whom are dead; he "is a bachelor by choice or accident,his friends do not know which."

Director Joseph GLASCOCK was born in Fleming County March 1, 1855; came to Grant County in 1876; in 1888 he married Miss Bettie C. JOHNSON, to whom 5 children have been born, 4 of whom are living; a Republican.

Dr. A. G. ELLISTON not guilty in the killing of R. A. DICKERSON is the verdict of the jury last Saturday.

Uncle Dic McGUIRE has recently moved to town and his years number 114.

Mrs. Sarah GARRISON, of Union, Boone County, visited her sister, Mrs. Alice V. WILLIS.

William S. PRYOR, Kentucky's Chief Justice, over 70 years old, was the best Circuit Judge this district ever had.

The Bank of Williamstown, organized in 1880, is Grant County's oldest bank - the first between Covington and Georgetown. A history of the bank is printed along with biographical sketches and photographs of J. H. WEBB, T. L. CLARK, J. H. HUMLONG, J. W. WEBB, A. G. DeJARNETTE, and R. H. ELLISTON.
1. President J. H. WEBB will be 70 next June; native "Tar Heel" by birth; had 6 children by his wife, Miss Corneal STROUD, who he married in 1866.
2. Director T. L. CLARK, called the "Governor" or "Uncle Tom", was born near Hardscrabble, November 4, 1812; will be 84 next November; 6 foot 6 inches tall, broad shouldered, and 250 pounds; wife died several years ago and he has no children; has given several thousand dollars to the Methodist Church.
3. Assistant Cashier J. H. HUMLONG was born in Bracken County, Ky., October 4, 1848; was a son of George H. and Eliza J. (WALTON) Humlong; of family of 4, 2 are dead; he married twice: first to Miss Letta PAYNE WILLIS, of Brooksville, to which 2 living children, Dixie and Clara HUMLONG; she died in 1887; in 1892 he married Miss Elizabeth STRATTON.
4. Director J. W. WEBB is the next to oldest son of William F. WEBB and has lived near Williamstown all his life; in 1888 he married Miss Minnie BARBOUR: they have 3 boys and 1 girl.
5. Director A. G. DeJARNETTE, "Captain", was born in Owen County September 22, 1842; served briefly in Confederate army; in 1869 he married Miss Alice ELLISTON, daughter of Joseph T. ELLISTON; they have 2 boys and 2 girls, all living; oldest daughter married W. E. SULLIVAN, of Glencoe, about 2 years ago.
6. Director R. H. ELLISTON was born in Grant County among the Ten Mile hills nearly 40 years ago; is the oldest child of 7 children born to Hiram and Elizabeth ELLISTON; engaged in hardware and undertaking business now; in 1877 he married Miss Clara WILLIS, of Brooksville, Bracken County, Ky.: only 1 child is living from this union.

Death of Judge J. R. GRACE in Frankfort last Thursday of heart failure; was from Cadiz, Ky., where he was buried.

Stewartsville News:
1. Mrs. Clara CLARK, of Covington, visited her cousin, Mrs. Belle BRADEN.
2. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom HOFFMAN, a daughter. Weight 8 pounds.

Sherman News:
1. Thomas McGUIRE, said to be 105 years old, was buried at the private burying ground on John WILDS'farm, west of Sherman, Friday.
2. D. H. FRANKS was buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery last Thursday.
3. P. C. MASSIE, of Vincennes, Indiana, visited his son, John MASSIE near Lexington.

Dry Ridge News:
1. Miss Ella MUNDAY, of Harrisburg, Owen County, visited her sister, Mrs. R. A. DICKERSON.
2. Born to the wife of Jeff WILLIAMS, a boy.
3. Miss Pearl HUME, of Sherman, visited her aunt, Mrs. AMMERMAN.

Saturday afternoon was the funeral and burial of Miss Lena GOUGE.

Mr. Winnie HENDERSON, of Brazill, Indiana, son-in-law of Sol NICHOLS, and his sons visited in Dry Ridge.

Rev. George NEEDHAM, Presiding Elder of the Southern Kentucky Conference of the M. E. Church, visited his brother, Hon. Tim NEEDHAM.

W. W. POINTS will go to New Orleans until the 12th, when he will marry Miss Eliza J. GRACE, the sister of Mrs. E. T. CRAM; they will return to live in Williamstown.

Obituary - Eliza A. SIMONS died at her home near Blanchet, this county, Tuesday, February 18, 1896; was born September 22, 1822; was 73 years, 4 months, and 26 days at death; she married July 12, 1888 to Francis SIMON, to whom 9 children were born, 6 reached maturity, and 4 survive: Jacob SIMONS, Mrs. NORTHCUTT, of Cynthiana, Ferdinand SIMONS, and Mrs. CHILDERS, of Corinth; funeral preached by writer, G. W. HILL at the old home Wednesday, February 19; she was buried beside her companion in the family burying ground.

Biographical sketch of William RENAKER; has lived nearly all of his life in Grant County; substantial farmer; was born in Harrison County, Kentucky December 27, 1822; his grandfather moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Harrison at a very early day; he married a Miss LEMMON and raised a family of 5 boys and 1 girl; George RENAKER, the father of William, was born in November, 1778 and was the son of Adam RENAKER; Adam's first wife was Miss Frankie JEWITT, to whom was born 5 boys and 5 girls: Wm. was the 3rd child and oldest son; his mother died in May, 1839 and his father married the next year to Miss Betsie WILSON, who still lives, In Adams County, Illinois; Adam and Betsie had 8 children; of these total 18 children, 14 still live; Wm.'s father moved to Grant and settled on Eagle Creek when Wm. was a young man; Wm. was married February 17, 1847 to Miss Mary HEDGER, daughter of Jacob C. HEDGER, deceased, a wealthy land owner of Eagle Creek; there are 5 boys and 4 girls, all living except 2 boys who died in childhood; the living children are W. T. RENAKER, J. D. RENAKER and J. N. RENAKER, all of whom live in the Downingsville and Jonesville neighborhood; the daughters are Mrs. J. C. MARTIN, Mrs. A. JEWETT, Mrs. J. M. MARTIN, all living near Cynthiana, and Mrs. Rodger MARTIN, who lives near her father in the Dry Ridge neighborhood, where he moved in 1869 from his Eagle Creek farm; he has 30 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The 4th trial of Dr. MASSIE in Owen Circuit Court, for the murder of Jesse HONAKER in 1892, reached the same verdict: life imprisonment.

Hiram BERRY, THursday [March 19?]; funeral was Saturday at the Baptist Church and buried in the Frankfort Cemetery; was born in Morgantown, Pennsylvania about 75 years ago; married his first wife, Miss Elenor HUMES, at Madison, Indiana; brother, Geo. W. BERRY; some 13 years ago he married again (having lost his first wife some 5 years ago), Miss Clarinda J. CUNNINGHAM, of Grant County, who, with four children, Mrs. Alice WATSON, Mrs. Florence CANNON, Dr. Jas. W. BERRY, and Geo. F. BERRY (children of his first wife, his last wife having no children) survive.

Mrs. M. NICHOLS died last Sunday at the home of J. T. PRICE.

Death of William LITTELL, about 65, at his home near Hardscrable or Cherry Grove on last Friday morning; suffered from heart failure; born, raised, and died in area he lived; wife was Miss CLARK, sister of B. P. CLARK and the late O. D. CLARK; 8 children survive - 4 boys and 4 girls; the boys are Augustus, Earnest, William Jr., and Clark; the girls are Mrs. Wm. Musselman, Lillie, Badie, and Batta; man of considerable fortune; buried Saturday in Williamstown Cemetery.

Death of James PRICE, father of Dr. J. L. and Commodore PRICE, of Sherman, at his home near Sherman last week; lived near Sherman for nearly 50 years.

Death of Mrs. Bettie [Rev. G. W.] HILL, Sunday morning; husband nursed her for 4 months until he also took sick; she had pneumonia and fever; 8 children, 3 of whom took sick with typhoid fever before she died; married for nearly 20 years; funeral at the Baptist Church Tuesday morning; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

SCROGGINS, of near Heekin; had moved to Kansas several years ago; one of his sons, Dr. W. A. SCROGGINS, of Dry Ridge, had recently visited him; thinking he would recover; his body returned to his native Grant County and was buried last Wednesday at the church cemetery at Grassy Run [an old time place of worship]; was about 60; his wife died many years ago.

Carl HIGHTOWER, about 22, killed [shot with pistol] on his way home from Mt. Pleasant Church last Saturday night, by a former friend, Noah READENOUR, among the hills of Fork Lick, within sight of his home - about four miles south of Williamstown on the north side of Fork Lick creek; Carl was the son of Rolla HIGHTOWER and Noah is the son of Joe READENOUR; their father's farm join each other; in early spring, they fell out over one Miss Lizzie ROBINSON at the home of Joe WEBB, when his daughter, Miss Gracie, married Mr. SMITH; mentions Noah's brother, Walsh READENOUR; Carl was buried Monday in Williamstown Cemetery; READENOUR cannot be found anywhere.

Sherman News - Ellie FRANKS, son of J. H. FRANKS, near Mt. Zion, while trying to shoot a chicken, accidentally shot his brother Worth through the jaw. The wound, though painful, is not considered dangerous.

Stewartswille News - T. N. HOFFMAN was called home by death last Monday. His father and mother are both ill at this writing.

Elliston News - Mrs. WILSON and son, of Harrisburg, Owen County, visited her daughter, Mrs. J. W. SASHER.

Mrs. E. M. DUNGAN kills herself by taking an overdose of cedar oil with criminal intent, Tuesday, at the home of her husband, D. DUNGAN, about two miles east of Blanchett Station; her 18 month old baby found sleeping near her laying just outside the door; she was about 20 years old and was the daughter of T. B. RAMEY.

Miss Mary SETTLE, daughter of Hon. Evan SETTLE, the Owen County orator, visited Miss Clara MATTHEWS.

Mrs. Dr. N. S. MATTHEWS and son, Raymond, will visit her parents in Columbus, Ohio.

Letter to the Editor from Louis ROBINSON, of White Hall, Alabama - "and old slave darkey": In 1844 I was sold out of the ROBINSON family as a slave by O. P. HOGAN. He sold me to John A. MILLER on a cotton farm. After the late war I was not able to come home [Grant County]. When I was sold I had two brothers [Robert and George] and two uncles [Rankin and Phillip]"

YANCEY at his Williamstown home on Monday, September 7, after long illness; paralysis was cause of death; was born in New Liberty, Owen County, on March [date not readable], 1849; when young, his mother was widowed and moved to Missouri's prairies; June 9, 1871 he married Sallie K. HOGAN, daughter of O. P. HOGAN, of Williamstown, who with three children survive, the eldest born son, Graham, having died 5 years ago; died at old homestead of his father-in-law, Hon. O. P. HOGAN; buried in Williamstown Cemetery Wednesday.

Death of Mrs. William BROMBACK at her home, one mile north of Williamstown last Monday, of tumor operation; buried at Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday; leaves a husband and children.

Death of Robert F. WARE, at his home about one mile east of Williamstown Tuesday morning; bad health for two or three years; recently overcame typhoid fever; then contracted malaria; immediate cause of death was Bright's disease; was born in Campbell County, September 4, 1828; twice married - first wife was Susan MARTIN, dead for nearly 30 years; second wife, Miss M. L. DAMERON survives; several children born to both marriages, seven survive: F. A. WARE, Dr. C. D. WARE, Mrs. Josephine SHIELDS, Mrs. Fannie LUCAS, Wm. A. WARE, George F. WARE, and Mrs. Anna BISHOP. He will be buried in Williamstown Cemetery on Friday, pending the arrival of his son, Dr. Ware, from [Colfax], California.

Mrs. L. L. KROGER visited her parents at Dixon Station and returned with her sister, Miss Nora CAHILL.

R. W. VANCE, son of Robert VANCE, who lives on the Baton Rouge turnpike, is very low with typhoid fever, which it is believed he contacted while nursing the deceased, Thomas HUFFMAN.

Walton News - Death of Sam HIND Sr. on Thursday; born in Hart County, Kentucky in 1819 and came with his father, a veteran of the war of 1812, to this section in 1820; leaves a widow, 2 sons, and 2 daughters.
