Miss Josie LITTELL, formerly of this place, was married in Alexandria, Indiana, to E. B. ROGERS, a business man of that place.
Americus VALLANDINGHAM, a prominent farmer of Mt. Zion, died of heart failure.
Dr. Lee TULLY was married in Louisville to Miss Emma BUNNER of that city.
Dr. A. L. MATTHEWS of Stewartsville, and Miss Minnie LILLARD of Folsom, were married in Cincinnati.

FEBRUARY:
Wightman D. ROBERTS and Miss Nannie WILSON were married in Lexington.
Miss Stella HALL, daughter of H. C. HALL, died at her home on Fork Lick.

MARCH:
M. S. MILLS and Miss Elizabeth DAUGHERTY were married at Gardnersville.
W. W. Points married Miss Eliza GRACE at and of New Orleans.
James McMILLAN and Miss Annie HENSLEY, of this place, were married in Georgetown.
John ELLISTON, of Elliston, died at his home.
Mrs. Albert LUCAS died at her home.

MAY:
John A. VEST died at his home of stomach cancer and was buried at Mt. Zion.
Homer NORTHCUTT and Miss Delle HENDRICKS were married at the residence of C. C. LEWIS by Rev. DAVIS of Georgetown.
Died at her home on Falmouth Street, Mr. J. H. LILLARD.

JUNE:
John CHILDERS was married to Miss Katie STEWART, of Georgetown, by Rev. MARKSBERRY, of that place.
Miss Mamie Angerona JONES and James Valdor McLEMORE, both of Memphis, Tennessee, were married at the Christian Church by Rev. J. W. MADDUX.
William LITTELL died of heart failure at his home at Cherry Grove.
Mrs. HILL died at her home.

JULY:
Hade STROUD was killed by stepping from the fast train.

AUGUST:
Sinclair HARRISON and Mrs. Hattie M. McKINSEY, of Delia, were married at the home of James WALLACE, near town.
Zadie HOFFMAN died at Stewartsville of typhoid fever.
Mrs. Mary WILLIAMS died at the home of her father, William SMITH.

SEPTEMBER:
R. F. WARE died at his home near town.
Rev. G. W. YANCEY died at his home. Death caused by paralysis.
Mrs. William BROMBACK died at her home one mile north of Williamstown.
Calvert Owen HULETT and Miss Anaise CLARK were married at the home of the bridge on High Street.
Mrs. Mary SMITH died at her home at Mt. Zion of paralysis.
Zelma GAUGH died at the home of her parents near Stewartsville of diphtheria.

OCTOBER:
R. E. BYERS died at his home of consumption.
Richard McNAY, who died at High Bridge, was buried at Sherman.
Mrs. Elizabeth HARRINGTON died at the home of her daughter. Mrs. James P. WEBB.
Miss Barbara DOER and Wilson COOK were married at the residence of Rev. J. M. McKINLEY.
Joe F. GAUGH died at his home at Mason, of typhoid fever.

NOVEMBER:
Mrs. Eugenia SIMMONS, wife of W. T. SIMMONS Sr, died at her home on Paris Street.
Mrs. BLACKFORD died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C. MUSSELMAN, and was buried at Lexington.
Mrs. Eva LOOMIS, wife of Ezra LOOMIS Jr., died at her home near Falmouth.
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. CRAM celebrated their golden wedding at their home in South Williamstown.
William WEBB and Miss Lillie MORRIS were married at Mt. Pleasant by Rev. PETTY.
Dr. A. D. BLAINE and Miss Anna May O'HARA were married at the Methodist Church at Dry Ridge by Rev. Pope, of Millersburg.

DECEMBER:
Robt. H. HOPPER, of Stewartsville, died and was buried by the Masons in Williamstown.
Mrs. Elizabeth WEBSTER, of Mt. Zion, wife of P. G. WEBSTER, died at her home.
Jim COMBS, of Lawrenceville, was killed by a falling tree.
Richard JOHNSON fell from a barn on D. M. HALL's farm and was killed.
H. D. STRATTON died at his home after several weeks illness and was buried by the Oddfellows.
John BOYD and Miss Hattie CALANDER were married at the Stewartsville Baptist Church.
Mrs. Elizabeth LANDRAM, wife of J. J. LANDRAM, died at her home near Knoxville, Ky. 

January 7, 1897
Newt FRANKS and Miss Nannie STEWART were married at Stewartsville.

Sherman News - Hayden REED, of Crittenden, visited his brother, Dudley, Sunday.

William CONRAD, of Mt. Zion precinct, is a candidate for Constable; is son of T. J. CONRAD and a farmer.

Ernest McGLASSON and his new wife of Hennepin, Illinois, visited his father, J. J. McGLASSON at Mason; Ernest will reside in the "Sucker" state permanently.

J. R. BOWMAN, of Berry, Kentucky, and Miss Nannie LAYLE, of this place, were married at [Berry] on last Monday afternoon

On Wednesday afternoon, W. W. [Walter] POINTS received a letter from his wife who is spending the winter with her parents in New Orleans, that he was the father of a 10 pound girl. Luther GROSS, on the same day, announced there was a 10 pound baby boy at his house.

Dry Ridge News: Died on last Wednesday, Uncle Henry BILLITER of la grippe, aged 77 years; interred in family burying ground near J. B. O'NEAL's.

Albert JONES was born in the good old Democratic County of Owen about 36 years ago; is married with 5 children; resides in Downingsville and Grant County for several years.

Jeff BROWN, candidate for Jailer, came to his home near Dry Ridge one evening last week and found a brand new baby boy at his house.

J. N. CARTER mentions his son-in-law, R. W. VANCE.

John BLACKFORD of Keene, Jessamine County, visited his sisters, Mrs. H. C. MUSSELMAN and Mrs. Silas WIGGINGTON.

Death of Marion ALLPHIN, one of Grant County's most popular and deserving young school teachers, of pneumonia, at the home of his sister, Mrs. PINER, on the banks of Eagle Creek on last Sunday morning; only 18; was next youngest son of Hon. H. Z. ALLPHIN; had recently closed Gray School and was finishing the school of his brother, William; was buried in the cemetery at Holbrook Monday..

Crittenden was better known as "Pin Hook" in former years.

F. M. SMITH, administrator fro James and Mary SMITH, deceased, announced sale at their late residence one mile north of Mt. Zion on the Mt. Zion and Verona Pike, January 27, 1897.

Born to the wife of John B. O'NEAL, Thursday, January 7, 1897, a girl. Weight 13 pounds. Name, William Jennings O'NEAL. Violette. [correct as printed].

Born to the wife of Robert MOORE, Friday, January 8, 1897, a girl. Weight 10 pounds. Violette.

Joseph HICKS, candidate for magistrate, was born February 29, 1840 in Downingsville district where he now lives and is 57; is a son of William and Catherine HICKS; father died when a small boy; his mother is living and is 78; at 18, Joseph married Mary Jane KINMAN, to whom 12 children have been born, all living, except one girl; 5 boys and 4 girls are married; death of Squire CHILDERS, Justice of the Peace, in 1877 is noted.

January 21, 1897
Dry Ridge News:
1. Dr. A. D. BLAINE and his bonnie bride will soon move to their new home on Main Street.
2. Enoch HUMPHREY, who has lately married, will move to the home formerly owned by uncle Jake RENAKER, but now owned by Claud CONRAD.
3. Mrs. Ella JEFFERS, wife of A. T. JEFFERS, died January 8, 1897, at age 49, after 2 year illness, of tumor; funeral at Dry Ridge Methodist Church, followed by burial in Williamstown Cemetery.

Walton News:
1. Death of Thomas A. JOHNSON, at his Boone County home, January 15, 1897, aged 74 years, 9 months, and 10 days; leaves wife and 9 married daughters; 3 sons died several years ago; more than 20 grandchildren.
2. Died January 2, 1897, at his home near Verona, Boone County, Vardamin FINNELL, 84; in 1863 he paid $3,000 to relieve Boone County of the draft for [Civil War] soldiers; leaves 4 children; Judge J. B. FINNELL, of Georgetown, and Dr. R. L. FINNELL of Verona and 2 daughters; funeral by [Rev. Lafe] L. JOHNSON; buried in Verona Cemetery beside his wife who died many years before.
3. Death of John STAPLETON, 73, on the "Beaver Grade"; was industrious farmer.
4. Mrs. America MILLER, wife of Thos. MILLER, of Palmer Springs, Florida, who was visiting her old home, died on the 10th at the home of her brother, Edward HOLDER.
5. Yesterday the hearse was sent to Verona to convey the body of Lawrence DWYER, about 60, to his resting place.

Sherman News: Rev. G. W. HILL preached the funeral of Miss Carrie THOMPSON, at Mt. Zion, where she was buried in the cemetery on Monday.

Mason News:
1. Miss Eva FORNASH, 25, died very suddenly Monday of consumption; was buried in the Baptist cemetery.
2. Uncle Thompson SMITH died Monday, in the 87th year of his age.

George W. TUCKER was born 1830 in Bourbon County; family moved to Grant 9 years later; in 1867 he married Miss Lucia TULLY, a daughter of Dr. TULLY and a sister of H. H. TULLY of Williamstown; they have four children, all living.

Sketch of Ed. V. ROGERS, candidate for surveyor; is son of Samuel and Caroline ROGERS; Ed. is oldest of 7 children and was born March 22, 1870; parents moved to Grant in 1874 and have lived in Stewartsville neighborhood since.

Miss Carrie THOMPSON, daughter of Magistrate James P. THOMPSON, died on last Monday after long illness of consumption; buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery last Tuesday.

John DUNN delivered a Vermont granite monument at Stringtown, Harrison County, on the lot of Lafayette HENRY; will make a similar type for grave of Capt. James T. WILLIS [in Williamstown]

Death of Hattie LUCAS at her mother's Main Street, Williamstown, home on Wednesday of nervous prostration; she was a teacher at Childers School near Downingsville; buried in Williamstown Cemetery Wednesday.

Salem, Kentucky, January 19, '97 - John Denman GAUGH, 4 year old son of J. Leslie GAUGH, died January 14, 1897; has gone to play with his little sister, Zelma; resolutions from the Methodist Church Sunday School committee: Claud DILLS, Mary FLEGE, and Henry McMILLAN.

January 28, 1897
In Memoria.  Ella Lewis JEFFERS was born October 16, 1848; was married to Albert JEFFERS 24 years ago; was invalid for nearly two years; survived by her husband and two children; died January 3, 1897; funeral at Dry Ridge; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Resolution on death of Robert H. HOPPER, who was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky January 27, 1861; he died December 2, 1896; was a husband and father.

Died at his home in Harrison County, Kentucky, John S. SCOTT, father of Dr. J. T. SCOTT, January 19, 1897, of heart disease; Uncle John was a Harrison County pioneer nearly 76 years old; was buried at the family burying ground on the farm.

Robert STUBBLEFIELD [formerly of Williamstown], 79, died at his home No. 210 East 17th Street [Covington]; leaves wife and 2 children; body to be shipped tomorrow to Dover for interment by undertakers Wilkie & Smith.

Mrs. Lily BYERS and children visited her father, James GREENE, of Ghent.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry HARRISON were in Walton Sunday for the funeral of Perry INGRAM.

Death of Oliver Perry INGRAM, last Saturday, January 23, at his home near Walton, Kentucky; was a son of Hugh and Mottie (SANDERS) INGRAM; was born near Walton, August 27, 1869 and was 27 years, 5 months, and 23 days old at death; known as Perry. was a practical painter of railroad buildings; funeral was Sunday and was buried in the Baptist Cemetery.

Master John TURNER gave his 15th birthday party last Monday.

Oak Ridge News:
1. Miss Josie WEBB of Williamstown visited her sister, Mrs. J. GOUGE.
2. Miss Bessie HIGHTOWER of Gardnersville visited her uncle, R. A. HIGHTOWER.

Stewartsville: Funeral of little Denman GAUGH will be preached at Salem the first Sunday in February by R. G. W. HILL.

Crittenden News:
1. Miss Annie ROUSE visited her sister, Mrs. LLOYD, at Norwood, Ohio.
2. Miss Hester WATERHOUSE, of Delaware, Ohio, visited her sister, Mrs. Everet BEDINGER.

Elliston News:
1. On Saturday night the 16th, Miss Carrie, daughter of James M. THOMPSON, passed away and was buried at Mt. Zion on the 18th.
2. On Thursday the 21st after an illness of several months, Mrs. Birdie BANNISTER died; was daughter of W. P. ELLISTON, deceased; buried at Union, Boone County, beside her husband.
3. Born to the wife of Sydney STONE Sr. on the 25th, a girl. Weight 2 pounds. Dr. TULLY attending.

February 4, 1897
Dry Ridge News: Funeral of Mrs. Abraham ECKLER was preached at the Missionary Baptist Church Sunday.

Sherman News: John MASSIE and wife visited their brother, William; will make their home in Ludlow.

Mt. Pleasant News: Thomas LAWRENCE and wife visited his sister, Mrs. J. W. CRAMMER.

Circuit Court convened Monday. One case considered was: Alfred BICKERS' administrator vs. N. T. Evans, &c., dismissed without prejudice with judgment for defendant's cost.

Walton News: Mrs. Arlie LERMOND, who visited her mother-in-law, Mrs. E. LERMOND, was called to her sick sister in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Flingsville News - Died on the 21st, Noah THOMPSON; leaves six children - 3 sons and 3 daughters.

Funeral of little Johnnie Denman, 4-1/2 year old son of J. L. GAUGH, will be preached the first Sunday in February at Salem Methodist Church near Stewartsville.

Judge Warren MONFORT died at his home in Pineville, Kentucky, Tuesday, February 2, 1897.

Mrs. Abe ECKLER of Dry Ridge, died at her home last Saturday of cancer of the stomach and was interred in the family burying ground near that place on Sunday.

Telegram received the 2nd announcing the death of Mrs. Alice J. HAMPTON, wife of W. A. HAMPTON and daughter of W. H. and Eliza WESTOVER on previous night at her home in Pomona, Cumberland County, Tennessee; two of her brothers, W. D. and Monroe WESTOVER, left to attend the funeral there today.

Mrs. Hattie ARNOLD visited her sister, Mrs. FINCH, of Burlington.

Dr. Charlie VIOLETT of Napoleon is tending his sick brother, Dr. J. D. VIOLETT on High Street.

Died - Sarah C. ECKLER, wife of Abraham ECKLER, after 7 years of suffering, January 29, 1897; was born January 17, 1861; married in 1882; survived by husband; funeral in the Dry Ridge Church; burial in the old family burying ground.

Died at her home in Williamstown January 19, 1897, Hattie LUCAS, in her 19th years.

Rev. Elijah PETTY is under 50; moved to Fork Lick, Grant County, ten years ago; married twice; father of 15 children; all living except one.

W. W. POINTS is the son of Dr. J. T. POINTS of Sherman, and a grandson of Hon. William POINTS of the same place; about 26; married with one child.

Luther M. GROSS, 24, was born and raised in Downingsville precinct; married with one child.

George Y. EVANS is about 40 and married.

Sherman News - C. C. and William LAYLE of Odessa, Missouri, attended their mother's funeral on Sunday: Margaret LAYLE, wife of John LAYLE, deceased, was born and raised near Mt. Zion and died at her old home, now the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angie SAMS, and was in her 94th years.

Crittenden News: Mrs. Alice COLLINS visited her sick daughter, Mrs. Joseph HANLEY of Walnut Hills, Ohio.

Mt. Pleasant News:
1. Taylor CROUCH and his sister, Miss Mary CROUCH, attended the funeral of their aunt, Martha MARSHALL, at Corinth last Tuesday.
2. William STONE and wife visited her father, Z. T. CROUCH.

William L. ALLPHIN, Democratic nominee for Circuit Court Clerk, is a son of Zebade[e] and Lucretia (LOOMIS) ALLPHINE; was born February 28, 1871; one of nine children and is oldest living; born and raised in Grant County; a school teacher and omnivorous reader.

Resolutions of the Grant Circuit Court, Williamstown, Kentucky, February 4, 1897: Hon. Warren MONTFORT was born in Switzerland County, Indiana in 1837; live in Kentucky since his early boyhood; died February 1, 1897 at his Pineville, Kentucky home; was in Confederate army for 4 years as a soldier.

Married at the clerk's office in Williamstown, February 10, 1897, William GOLDBERRY and Mess Eva HUNTER.

Mrs. Rosa B. FORD, of Winchester, visited her sister, Mrs. DICKEY.

Monroe and William D. WESTOVER returned from the funeral of their sister, Mrs. A. J. HAMPTON at Pomona, Tennessee; she was buried in the cemetery of the Congregational Church on top of the Cumberland mountains.

Died at Elliston, this county, Mrs. Annie (KEMPER) ELLISTON, wife of W. D. ELLISTON, Friday, February 5, 1897, of typhoid fever, aged 33 years and 4 months; was born near Poplar Grove, Owen County, October 5, 1864; February 28, 1889 she married W. D. ELLISTON; never attached herself to any church; funeral and burial at the Oddfellows Cemetery, Poplar Grove; survived by husband, 3 children, and aged mother.

Circuit Court Action, Tuesday, 2nd day: Louisa [BICKERS] DIETZ vs. Martha CHAPMAN, etc.; Master Commissioner acknowledged seven deeds to heirs.

Circuit Court Action, Wednesday: D. H. KENDALL vs. Louisiana KENDALL for divorce; county attorney demurred to plaintiff's petition and the court took time.

Circuit Court Action, Saturday, 6th day: Commonwealth of Kentucky vs. William POINTS, moving a dead body; bond $100.

Damage Suit of William CONRAD vs. John B. SANDERS for alienating the affections of CONRAD's wife is again on trial; both are rich men, prominent in Dry Ridge; CONRAD asks for $25,000 damages; CONRAD said he was 50 years old and married Miss Kate RENAKER in 1875 and had lived near Dry Ridge from that time until their separation; she bore him six children; two of whom are dead; CONRAD stated, "I never saw any more of SANDERS until the sickness and death of our little girl. My wife sent for him [as undertaker] to take charge of the corpse." J. N. RENAKER, of Downingsville, said he was a second cousin of both of the parties.

February 18, 1897
Dry Ridge News:
1. "Dick" McCLURE came near committing suicide by drowning himself in C. D. REED's cistern, but for the timely assistance of Ed CLARK and Elwood McCLURE who bravely came to the rescue and saved the poor's dog's life.
2. Chas. NORTHCUTT and Miss Ada MAY will be married in the Baptist Church at this place on Wednesday, February 24.
3. The family of the Hon. C. C. REED met at his home last Friday to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of his birth.

Resolutions from Heekin Literary and Debating Society: Marion ALLPHIN died January 10, 1897; was teacher; leaves parents, a son, brothers and sisters.

Owen News mentions Jack WEBB, who spent the best days of his life in Owen [County] in pursuit of his wife, Miss Maggie.

Circuit Court Action - Lydie HARRISON adjudged to be an idiot.

Ira, infant son of Dr. R. E. and Maggie LIMMERICK, who died January 18, 1897, of pneumonia, age 11 months.

Joseph F. GAUGH was born June 19, 1860 and died October 23, 1896; a Baptist and a Mason; survived by wife and children. Poem follows, signed by His Little Son, Freddie.

Ellen DUNN, wife of John DUNN, died December 18, 1896; ill with consumption for nearly six years; body carried to the Baptist Church and laid to rest; poem mentions absence of dear mother and Bennie, signed by her daughter Addie.

Charles M. ALLPHIN died January 19, 1897, age 18 years, 6[?] months and 6 days; poem mentions brother and Marion, signed by Lucretia ALLPHIN, Holbrook, Kentucky.

Leo THOMAS, son of N. D. and Lena RUHALL, was born March 5, 1895; died after a brief but severe burn, February 9, 1897, aged 1 year, 11 months, and 4 days.

Mary E. LITTELL, Administratrix for William LITTELL, deceased, announces public auction at his late home 3 miles south of Williamstown on the Covington and Lexington Pike, one mile north of Mason. March 3, 1897.

Conrad-Sanders Trial Participants: M. D. GRAY, D. C. POINTS, WIlliam RENAKER and C. C. CRAM. More testimony printed. I. N. CONRAD was a 1st cousin to William and Kate CONRAD. Miss Ida DUNSTALL (nee TUNGATE) was a witness. The defendant, John B. SANDERS, has been married for 15 years. The child, Edna, of Mr. CONRAD's, that died. Mrs. Mary SANDERS said she was the mother of John B. SANDERS. Peter SANDERS said he was the foster father of J. B. SANDERS. Mrs. Kate CONRAD said she was 39 and a daughter of J. B. RENAKER; was married to William CONRAD at the Grand Hotel in Cincinnati when she was on 17 years old; she had six children, two of whom were dead.

Dry Ridge News: On last Saturday morning, Cornelius EDWARDS, an aged and respected citizen, died very suddenly of disease of the brain; funeral was Monday and he was buried in the old ECKLAR Burying Ground.

Mason News: A little child of William TRUETT died last week with pneumonia.

1. Funeral of Mrs. John ELLIOTT, of Stringtown, last Sunday.

3. Death on the 7th at the home of Joseph CHIPMAN claimed life of Edward CROSSWAITE, Mrs. Chipman's nephew; Ed was bright young man of 18 years, who had just entered Lexington College and contracted pneumonia after one week.

In Memoriam - Peggy LAYLE died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Angeline SAMS, near Mt. Zion, Thursday, February 5, 1897; was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, June 1, 1893; being 93 years, 8 months, and 3 days old at the time of her death; in 1824 she married John LAYLE, who died some years ago; they had 13 children, all of whom lived to adulthood except one who died in infancy; funeral and burial was Sunday, February 7, at Mt. Zion.

In Memoriam - Urial HARRISON was stricken with paralysis in this city on last County Court Day; he died Thursday following; was born on the farm where he died, November 2, 1830, being 66 years, 4 months, and 9 days old; October 31, 1861, he married Miss Mary HUME; they had three children, two of whom are living: one son, C. H. HARRISON, a young attorney of our city [Williamstown] and a daughter, Mrs. Minnie NICHOLSON, of Nicholson, Ky.; lived in Grant County all his life except for four years in Missouri as a boy; not a church member but Baptist in belief; funeral at his home on Saturday, March 13, 1897; buried in Williamstown Cemetery; survived by widow, son, and daughter.

Wallace and Mrs. John CHIPMAN; funeral and burial at the cemetery on Tuesday; husband and several children survive.

C. C. "Kit" WEBSTER, of Covington, was born and raised in this county and is the brother of Nicholas WEBSTER who lives near Dry Ridge.

Walter TIBBLEMAN and Miss Sallie Jane DAILEY were married at the home of the bride's brother, Bud DAILEY, near Doudton, on March 23, 1897, by Rev. G. W. Hill.

The infant daughter of J. B. O'NEAL who lives some two miles north of town, died very suddenly last Friday night of catarrhal pneumonia. The remains of the little innocent were laid to rest in the cemetery at this place [Williamstown] Sunday afternoon.

The item in the COURIER last week reporting the death of the infant child of W. W. POINTS at New Orleans turned out to be incorrect. He found the baby very much improved and he and his wife returned with it last Thursday to live on Main Street.

Tom BARNES is the father of a baby boy about 3 months old which he christened William Jennings Bryan BARNES.

It is not commonly known that two second cousins of William McKINLEY, President of the United States, reside in or near Williamstown. William and John McKINLEY have lived in Grant County for the last 50 years. Were born, raised, and married here. John is a preacher and William is a farmer.

Died - Larkin BROWN of Crittenden, father of Edwin Brown, died very suddenly at his home near that village on Wednesday morning; was 82 and had not been ill; his funeral and burial will be today at the Christian Church Cemetery there.

Died suddenly on Tuesday morning at the Lexington Asylum, Mrs. Dr. R. P. THOMAS. Dr. THOMAS went to Lexington to bring back her body which was buried in Williamstown Cemetery on Wednesday; she was a daughter of the late John COLLINS, of New Eagle Mills and had been mentally deranged for the last 2 or 3 years.

C. B. SKEGGS is in Anaconda, Colorado, where his daughter, Miss Cecil Hazelton SKEGGS, is receiving notice as an artist.

Albert BLAND, a colored boy about 20, died Friday suddenly and suspiciously; supposed to have poisoned himself by boiling some roots for some fancied ailment; was buried in the colored cemetery on Saturday.

Attempted Suicide -Robert CAMPBELL sends a bullet into his body. Despondent over family troubles. Last Thursday in presence of his wife and mother; before shooting himself near the heart, he kissed his wife and baby; his chances of recovery are fair.

Mr. James NORTHCUTT of near Knoxville [Ky.] and Mrs. Minnie ASWERUS of Dry Ridge, were married at the residence of Rev. G. W. HILL, April 14, 1897.

Mrs. A. BURGESS and son, George, moved Monday to Hollenberg, Kansas.

Born to the wife of Frank SEWARDS, last Friday morning, a fine boy.

Robert McDUFFEE died of pneumonia after a short illness at his High Street home on Tuesday; one of Williamstown's oldest citizens (had just passed 70th birthday); leaves wife and large family of grown children; funeral and burial was Wednesday at Williamstown Cemetery.

Joseph GLASCOCK elected Treasurer of Grant County; came to county more than 20 years ago; engaged in the mercantile business; married Miss JOHNSON, daughter of W. C. JOHNSON of Downingsville and is raising quite a family of children.

In Memoriam of the death of Miss Carrie S. THOMPSON, only daughter of Esquire James M. THOMPSON and wife, of Elliston, who died shortly after midnight on Saturday, January 16, 1897, aged 20 years, 5 months, and 10 days; mentions her only brother; was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Poor Children Gathered Up and Placed in Homes - Rev. William SHOESMITH, Supt. of the Covington District of the Kentucky Children's Home Society visited Williamstown in the interest of his work. The Society was organized in December, 1895. Its work is to seek homeless, destitute children and place them in well-to-do-families. A receiving home is located at 431 West Walnut Street, Louisville. It organizes in every county seat and large town [as it did in Williamstown] and advisory. [Your abstracter, Robert L. BICKERS, and his brothers and sisters lived in the Covington Protestant Children's Home for about three years in the early 1950's. That home may have been an offshoot of this organization. We were "received" first a Louisville home, such as mentioned].

Letter to Editor from a former resident, Mrs. Estelle M. BLICK, lately of Savannah, but now of Fort Valley, Georgia, states "one can ride 35 miles and never be out of sight of a peach farm."

In Memory of Kate SCHUPERT, wife of Dr. A. M. SCHUPERT, who died at her home in Lawrenceville, April 18, of typhoid fever. Her remains were laid to rest the 20th in the Mussel Shoals Cemetery; was 24 at death.

Pallas MILLER, on of Grant County's oldest and most respected citizens, says he is an Eagle Creeker; he is a typical Kentuckian, standing 6 feet 6-1/2 inches in his stocking feet, spare in build and straight as an Indian.

S. M. CALDWELL of Borton, Illinois came to the sick bed of his father, Milton C. CALDWELL of near town, last week; a few days before he left for Kentucky his wife presented him with a boy baby.

Dr. Charley D. CRAM, wife and son, of Paris, Kentucky are at the sick bed of his father, W. [Willard] G. Cram [a pretty old man]; shortly he will move to the highlands [Pike's Peak] of Colorado due to his wife's bad health.

News reached Williamstown last Wednesday afternoon that the infant son of Mrs. R. E. BYERS, who at present is residing with her parents on a farm near Glencoe, had died; Remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground at that place.

Sinc HARRISON and wife are rejoicing over the arrival of a 7-1/2 pound boy at their home last Monday, May 24, 1897.

Milton CALDWELL died at his home near Williamstown on Monday night; he was 69; was born and raised in this county; married June 6, 1849, to Miss Susan E. WILLIAMS; to them were born ten children, six sons and four daughters, all of whom, except two daughters, are living; left a fine blue grass farm and a spotless name; was a believer in Jesus Christ but not a member of any church; was buried yesterday at Williamstown Cemetery.

Asa FINNELL, an orphan and student in the Corinth Academy, was crushed and probably fatally hurt by a piano falling on him at the Corinth depot on Monday evening.

Asa FINNELL is yet alive, at time conscious of his surroundings, but at times is a raving maniac; Squire ALLPHIN, his guardian, will file suit against the railroad.

Last week W. C. MARSHALL, a young widower of this place, [married] a widow, Mrs. ABBOT, at Wilmore, Kentucky.

Sudden death of John JONES, the colored barber, Monday afternoon; he fell in front of Hart's Blacksmith Shop and died almost instantly; lived in Williamstown last 15 years; buried Tuesday in the colored cemetery at this place.

Miss Gusta BRACHT acted as bridesmaid at the marriage of her cousin, Miss Liza HAMPTON, at Corinth last week.

Ben T. FRANK of Paducah, Kentucky, brother of the late W. G. FRANK, is one of the largest land owners in Kentucky, having some 4,000 acres in Kentucky and Texas.

 1. Died at his home Tuesday, June 1, Samuel "Honest Sam" ECKLAR, in his 73rd year; funeral preached at his house, then he was buried on his farm, a place selected by himself; leaves a wife, four sons and a daughter.

Sherman News: Albert VAWTER, one of Mt. Zion's oldest citizens, died on the 15th; funeral was preached on the 16th and the body laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

T. came to Kentucky at 8; his father, John S. SCOTT, settled at Leesburg, Harrison County; J. S. married Miss Sallie BURGESS, of Harrison County, in March 1844; had nine children: 7 still living. Dr. SCOTT is oldest; he married in July, 1868, Miss Sallie HEDGER of Harrison County; to them was born three children, two of whom are yet living, Mrs. Dr. G. W. TUCKER and Miss Ann SCOTT.

Corinth News: A traveling artist by the name of WOOLSEY died suddenly in his sleep at the Havicus Hotel last week.

Robert Henry, better known as "Harry," McDUFFEE died of consumption last Thursday night, July 8, 1897; was born June 9, 1867 and was just past 30 years old; youngest of 7 children born to Robert and Martha A. McDUFFEE, of whom the mother and 4 sisters survive; born and raised in this town, dying in the house in which he was born; buried Sunday in Williamstown Cemetery.

Mr. Woodford EDWARDS and Miss Anna McCOMAS will be united in marriage at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the home of Moses McCOMAS, the bride's father.

Mrs. J. D. DAUBMAN returned from Bourbon County where she was attending to the illness of her father who died July 1, aged 71 years. He was married 50 years and was a member of the Christian Church 60 years.

Mrs. R. H. ELLISTON and son, Will C., have been visiting her mother at Brooksville.

A. L. VAWTER, "Tet", of Idlewild, Ohio, moved from Mt. Zion some 6 months ago.

William L. NORMAN died at his residence in Walton, Boone County, Kentucky, July 5, 1897; was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, January 7, 1823, and came to Kentucky when about 18 years of age; in 1845 he married Miss America, daughter of Rev. Charles SECHRIST of Grant County; to them was born 4 daughters and 4 sons; the daughters died when young; the sons survive and lives in Walton vicinity; buried July 7 in the Walton Cemetery.

1. Died at Richwood, Kentucky, July 7, Miss Lizzie TUCKER, sister of G. W. TUCKER, of this place; lived mostly in Dry Ridge; suffered for years from cancer.
2. Death has again visited our little town and taken the infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff WILLIAMS on the 7th; she was buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Elliston News: Uncle John WILLIAMS of Goshen, Ohio, is visiting his son, our telegraph operator, A. J. WILLIAMS. The old gentleman is quite feeble, being 71 years of age and having served through the war in the 34th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

ALLPHIN, who was killed by a piano falling on him at Corinth last springs.These three boys were all of the same age and were great chums when alive and are buried side by side in Holbrook Cemetery.

Mose RACE, 55, residing near the village of Heekin, died July 22, buried Thursday at Grassy Run Church; leaves a wife and 7 children.

Thomas BICKERS, of Holbrook, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of that neighborhood, passed away Jul 16. His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery of the Holbrook Church [White Chapel Methodist Episcopal South Church] two days after his death. He was in his 79th year at the time of his death.

W. H. McNAY of Jonesville, formerly of Dry Ridge, died at his residence in Jonesville on last Thursday of inflammation of the bowels; buried in the cemetery [Williamstown]; was about 50 years at death [his stone states 38]; leaves a wife and children.

Mrs. Mahala THOMAS, mother of James and Thomas Thomas and A. Brown, died Tuesday after lingering illness of several years, aged 77 years; funeral today followed by burial at the old NICHOLS burying ground at William RENNECKER's.

Died Thursday, July 22, J. M. RACE, at his home near Grassy Run Church; was born January 8, 1842 and married Miss Eliza SCROGGINS in September 1861, to which 9 children were born, 7 of whom are yet living; was buried in Grassy Run Cemetery; wife and children survive.

Thomas BICKERS died on the 16th day of July 1897, aged 73 years, 9 months, and 1 day. He had been a member of the Methodist Church 56 years at the time of his death. His life was of such a character than when the death angel came he was ready to go. He was a kind and affectionate father, husband, and friend. He left a wife and 9 children to mourn his loss.  Lester Scroggins.

July 24. County Court: Came Emma McNAY, widow of W. H. McNAY, and filed waiver of her right to administer on her husband's estate, whereupon Jas. G. BLACKBURN was appointed administrator.

John SECHRIST has left the county; short with the farmers $8,000; evidently headed for the Klondyke [Alaska]. Was from Crittenden; never had much property of his own, but his character was above reproach and his reputation was above question; was married and his wife is almost distracted at his sudden disappearance.

Uncle Charley CLAY, after a brief illness, died at his home in the vicinity of Williamstown on last Wednesday; the next day his body was borne to the cemetery out on the hill; was in his 83rd year; was born, raised and spent his life in Grant County; was never married; his nephew, James H. Clay attended to his business the last 2 or 3 years; whether or not he had a will is questioned.

Mrs. Alonzo THRELKELD died at her home on the Covington and Lexington Pike 10 miles south of town last week of consumption; leaves a husband and 8 children; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

On July 16, 1897, the spirit of this good man, Thomas BICKERS, who was very dear to all who knew him, took its departure to that better world where there is no more sickness or dying, but joy reigns supreme. In view of his Godly life he may have consistently exclaimed: "For me to live in Christ, but to die is gain."

Sketch of T. W. VOIERS of Butler, Pendleton County: was born in Trimble County, Kentucky, May 11, 1866; is the son of John T. and Amelia VOIERS; his mother died when he was 12; he married Miss Lillian SHAW, youngest daughter of R. F. SHAW of Butler, May 23, 1894; they have one child aged 2 years.

R. P. CONRAD is a happy man. It is a boy and weighs 10 pounds.

An eloping couple, James W. HOLMAN and Miss Ada May FOREE, landed in Patriot, Indiana, Sunday, August 8, procured a license and a Squire and were married; his if a young farmer of near Williamstown; she is a daughter of Joseph FOREE of Elliston Station.

William T. CLARK, a sufferer from consumption, died at his High Street home last Saturday; born in Grant County April 23, 1850 and was well into his 47th year at death; a son of Bryan P. and Mary W. CLARK, who survive; September 2, 1875 he married Belle T. O'HARA, to whom was born 7 children; all yet living: Charlie B. Lucille T. Willie O'HARA, Annaise, now HULETT, Lucy J., Thos. W. and Frederick R. CLARK; William CLARK was the oldest of 9 children and was born in Williamstown but raised on a farm; Bryan P. CLARK, father of the decease is 82 and his wife is 70; was buried at Williamstown Cemetery Monday; survived by wife and children; resolutions follow from his Centurion Lodge IOOF, which mentioned his death date as August 14, 1897.

H. C. MUSSELMAN, hardware merchant and department store goods man of Williamstown, was born in Grant County nearly 60 years ago; served in the Confederacy; in 1862 he went out of state with the army of General BRAGG as a private and regimental officer [captain] until the close of the war; was in Sherman's famous march to the sea; in March 1869 he married Miss Jessie BLACKFORD of Keene, Jessamine County; they have 3 girls and 1 boy; the latter 8 years old.

The Coroner's inquest here Friday to investigate the death of Joe BREWSAUGH found that he died by being struck on the head with a revolver.

Joe WILLIAMS, about 15, the grandson of D. W. WILLIAMS of Blanchet, this county, died at his home last week; he told his mother that William MUSSELMAN had beaten him over the head with a pistol [Saturday evening]; Alvin CLARK stated that MUSSELMAN had beaten a tramp to death with a pistol on the road the day before.

Mrs. T. A. JOHNSON and children of Bridges, Alabama, will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. LOWE of Delia.

Mrs. G. W. YANCY and son, Worth, returned from visits in Louisville.

Jas. J. NEWALL and sister, Miss Mary NEWALL, returned to their Maysville, Kentucky home, accompanied as far as Cincinnati by their cousin, Miss Hattie BARBOUR.

Last Tuesday night Letie BEACH was returning home from Covington to his home at Crittenden, this county, when some two or three hundred yards from Richwood Station, Boone County, he died with no one present, while his anxious wife and two little boys awaited his return; he was born at Mt. Zion, Grant County, February 26, 1854; he married Miss Ida FRANKS, daughter of Barnette and Cresa [Lucretia], February 26, 1884; leaves also an aged father, one sister, and two brothers; funeral was at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Arther WILLIAMS, colored, son of Waverly Williams, on Saturday night in Williamstown, by a half-white Negro, Eugene LAIR, who had earlier fought with Arther's brother, Charlie, over a dime in a game of "craps"; Arther died Monday and was buried Tuesday; Charlie LAIR, father of Eugene, posted part of the bond.

1. A large crowd attended the funeral of Sanford CLIFTON last Sunday evening at 3:30.

Not Guilty is the verdict in the examining trial of young Othnel CLARK who was charged with the crime of murder in participating in the killing of Joe WILLIAMS at Blanchett some weeks ago.

Mrs. A. BICKERS of Mason paid $2 as a subscriber to the COURIER, in a guessing contest on the number of votes that will be cast in Grant County at the November election.

T. N. CLARK, a Grant County boy who has been attending school at Valparaiso, Indiana for the last half dozen years, is now in South Park, Washington. His sister, Mrs. John LAWRENCE lives on Baton Rouge Road.

Jessie CHIPMAN of South Williamstown who has been so ill for the last two weeks with a complication of troubles, died at his residence Tuesday night. His remains will be interred in the cemetery at Salem today.

J. D. JOHNSON, wife, and son, John Downing, of Indianapolis, were in town for a visit.

On last Thursday evening at Lawrenceville, W. W. SCROGGIN and Miss Pearl WINTERS were married in Mr. Winters' parlor; e is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T. SCROGGIN and a prosperous young farmer of the Lawrenceville neighborhood; she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. WINTERS.

CONRAD; he was attended by Walter CONRAD; honeymooned in Lexington; will live in Dry Ridge.

W. T. GREEN, about 50, a substantial farmer of Clark's Creek, surprised himself and all of his friends last Thursday by marrying Miss Clara SIMPSON of Warsaw Road, daughter of W. P. SIMPSON; they came to Williamstown, secured their license and were married by Rev. G. W. SIMPSON at his home.

Edward TIBBLEMAN, who live about 5 miles east of Williamstown, died last Saturday after a long and lingering attack of typhoid fever; was less than 40 and had been married twice; his last wife, parents, three grown brothers and one sister survive; was buried in Williamstown Cemetery Sunday afternoon.

In Memory of Mrs. James M. LAWRENCE who died of paralysis, October 13, 1897. Mrs. Rebecca (nee ALDREG) LAWRENCE was born in Clark County, December 20, 1814; married James M. LAWRENCE October 26, 1836; they moved to Grant County in March 1860; was mother of 8 children, 4 of whom yet live; leaves grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. W. R. BRASFIELD of Lexington, is here for the serious illness of her sister, Mrs. O. P. ELLISTON.

Mrs. Catherine KACHELHOFFER, mother of Mrs. M. D. GRAY, left to stay the winter in Birmingham, Ala.

The funeral of Mrs. L. STEPHENS, who died December 1, 1895 [as shown in book], was preached at the Primitive Baptist Church last Sunday.

In Memory. John F. Green died after a lingering illness at his home on Clarks Creek, Friday, November 5, 1897; was born in Bourbon County, November 10, 1815. On March 19, 1837, he married Miss Francis Marshall WILSON; she died during the same year; he then married Miss Elizabeth Allen PAYNE September 2, 1847, who died in 1880; when 5 years old, John moved with his father to this county where he lived until death; two brothers survive of a large family: Hon. Elijah Green of Kenton County, and Wm. Green of Elliston Station; he leaves two sons and two daughters; funeral preached at Clarks Creek Church where he was buried in the cemetery beside his companion.

In Memory of Bertha, wife of W. N. BROWN, who died October 15, 1897 of consumption; leaves a husband, two children [little Frank and Edna], mother, and two brothers; signed, E. Grace DAY.

On last Thursday evening at the home of the bride, near Downingsville, Frank CALDWELL and Miss Allie CARTER were married by Rev. Wm. McMILLAN; she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph CARTER.

Mason News: Mrs. Kate MILLER was called to Cincinnati last week to superintend the removal of her child's remains to near where its father was interred.

Tom BEAGLE is the father of twins. Both girls and mother are doing nicely. Most of Tom's life he passed as a bachelor; after nearly 20 years of courtship, he married last winter about a year ago. One twin weighed 6 pounds and the other 6-1/2 pounds. Mrs. BEAGLE is the daughter of Ben ROBINSON, of near Blanchet.

Holbrook News: Miss Mag GROSS visited her sister, Mrs. ROLAND.

Frank MENEFEE, son of the late George MENEFEE, of near Heekin, has filed suit against Dr. J. B. ALEXANDER of Mason, for $10,000 in damages for malpractice in serving his arm [amputation below the elbow], some years ag [when Frank was a boy]; never healed and pain continues.

Addison PEPPLER, who was shot by John WADE on November 30 while out hunting, died and was buried at Mt. Zion; Wade is still missing; A. L. "Tet" VAWTER, who was present at the shooting writes a letter of explanation: Wade is his brother-in-law; Tet was drinking but not drunk; calls for stop to selling whiskey in the county; "I loved that boy [Ad] as one of my own family."

Born to the wife of Lewis HARRISON on the 24th, a boy.

Born to the wife of Wm. STROUD Jr. last Saturday morning, a girl.

Mrs. Harry MATTHEWS is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd SIMON, at Corinth this week.

Miss Nancy ARNOLD and C. W. RIDDELL visited her sister, Mrs. FINCH, at Burlington.

Rev. G. W. HILL made a flying trip to Frankfort last Monday to marry John L. PHYTHIAN and Miss Alice HAYDEN, both of that city.

Sherman News: Atison [Addison] PEPPLER died of his wounds inflicted by a shot gun in the hands of John WADE on Saturday night, and was interred in Mt. Zion Cemetery Sunday evening. Addison was a good and kind hearted boy and the circumstances of his death are sad indeed and shows plainly the evils of whiskey in a peaceable and quite neighborhood. This is a stain and a blotch on the hospitable citizens of Mt. Zion and will be impressed indelibly on their minds for years to come.

Mrs. Ellen WOODYARD died Monday. She leaves two daughters and four sons. Her funeral was preached by Rev. Thomas ECTON, after which her remains were laid to rest in the Baptist Cemetery.

Double wedding on the morning of the 8th at the home of B. N. HARRISON, of near Williamstown. Miss Emma HARRISON married Perry McGLASSON of Mason, and Miss Irene HARRISON married Ben NEAL of Heekin; reception held at G. W. HARRISON's, brother of Mrs. McGLASSON, near Buffington, Ky.; Miss Lizzie HARRISON of Buffington, played the organ; among the guests were Misses Lula, Anna, and Maggie SANDERS, Anna JONES, and Bessie MAHAFFEE, Otto, Clyde and A. W. BOYCE.

Sherman News: A young man by the name of WEBB, living near Mt. Zion, accidentally shot himself while hunting on Sunday. He only lived a few hours.

Death of Mrs. Susan A. CALDWELL, wife of M. C. CALDWELL (deceased), after a brief illness on December 4; maiden name was WILLIAMS; was born in Grant County the 29th of November, 1832, being 65 years and 5 days old at her death; married M. C., who died only 6 months before her on the 6th of December 1849; to this union 10 children were born, 6 boys and 4 girls, 8 of whom are living. Funeral preached at the Baptist Church after which she was buried beside her husband and daughter in Williamstown Cemetery.

Ed BREEDEN of Windfield, Kansas [visiting with wife and two sons], was born and raised in this part of Ky.

Abraham FRANKS was born in Grant County, October 4, 1820; was married to Sarah C. FINNELL, December 20, 1843; he died October 31, 1897 and "went home to be with wife and six children"; was buried in the old Mound Prairie Cemetery [Missouri] beside his companion, who died nine months ago.

The marriage of Forest B. BENSON to Miss Jennie NORTON occurred in the Methodist Church at Dry Ridge on the 15th; bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. NORTON, prominent residents of Grant County; they began housekeeping in the VIOLETTE property on Main Street.

Eugene POINTS of Sherman and Miss Stella HOUSE of Pendleton County, were married at the residence of the bride's parents Tuesday the 21st at 3 p.m. She is the daughter of Geo. HOUSE of Pendleton County; he is the son of Dan POINTS.

This afternoon at 2:30, Charles PETTY, eldest son of Representative elect Elijah PETTY and Miss Anna Hall of Sunrise, Harrison County, will be married at the Baptist Church at Sunrise; bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William HALL of Sunrise.

Dry Ridge News: Last Tuesday night Miss YORK of Broad Ridge Pike died of congestion of the bowls.

Holbrook News: Mrs. Mildia PERKINS of Owenton visited her sister, Mrs. Mollie GROSS.

Last Saturday at the Baptist Church, Rev. William McMILLAN, who has served for the past 3 years as its pastor, tendered his resignation [although he had been called for another year].

RIDDELL and wife were married 50 years last Thursday, the 16th, at the residence of Mr. WHITE, her father, in Boone County; a family dinner was held at their North Main Street home with all living children and grandchildren present: C.
