In the name of God Amen. I, John Allen
of the County of Grant and State of Kentucky being weak in body but of sound
mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish
this my last will and testament in manner and for following (that is to say)
first, my black girl Peggy who is about seventeen years of age is to be at
the disposal of my wife and children until she is thirty years at which time
she is to be free. I also leave all of the household and kitchen furniture
for the use of my wife and children and not to be sold by my executor. And
I appoint my wife and brother William Marshall the sole executor to this
my last will and testament and also the guardian for my children; the balance
of my property to be disposed of according to law and in case my children
should both die leaving no heirs, then all my estate goes to my wife and
her lawful heirs. I further will that if at any future time my wife and my
executor should both agree and be of opinion that the sale of my land would
be advantageous to my wife and children, then and in that case, it is my
will that my executor make sale of same, and I further will that my executor
keep the place and fencing in good repair and that the expenses necessarily
incurred in doing the same be paid out of my estate. In testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of August 1827. John
Allen. Signed, sealed and published in presence of us by the testator
Charles Ruddell, Moses Theobald, Nancy Theobald.
