Solomon Belew
Solomon Belew, son of Peter and Alice Bailleau, was born in Virginia in 1755-6. He served in Virginia in the American Revolution. The pension later granted to him (or his widow) is identified as W8358. In Orange County, Virginia he married Elina/Linna, maiden name unknown,on June 9, 1778. By 1800 the family had moved to Kentucky where Solomon and Elina/Linna became members of the Great Crossing Baptist Church in Scott County, Kentucky. By 1809 they resided on their property on the middle fork of Grassy Creek in Pendleton County, Kentucky. Solomon died September 16, 1818 and Elina/Linna died November 17, 1840. Their children were:
1. Elijah C. Belew, born June 9, 1779 in Virginia, died after 1840, married November 21, 1803 in Pendleton County, Annie Fisk, a widow, maiden name unknown.
(a) Madison Bailleul/Belew, born circa 1812, married March 14, 1839, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Mary Fish, married second, March 4, 1852, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Julia Ann Tomlin Dougherty. Their children: (1) Eunice born 1841 (2) Stephen M. born 1843 (3) Isabell (Belle) Frances, born 1845, (4) Ezra born 1850 (5) Rosetta C. born 1854, died 1919, married September 1, 1867, Alexander H. Daugherty, went to Menifee County, Kentucky (6) John Wesley born May 17, 1855, (7) Thomas Edwin born 1858, died 1932/4, married January 21, 1886, Almeda H. Daughtety (8) Clarissa F. born circa 1863, married December 14, 1880, Enos W. Race.
(b) James Bailleul/Belew, married October 15, 1818, Campbell County, Kentucky, Elizabeth Duckworth.
(c) Malinda Bailleul/Belew, married August 6, 1836, Campbell County, Kentucky, John Money.
2. Sarah/Sally Belew, born 1782 in Virginia, died May 19, 1872, married James Daugherty. Their children: (a) Joseph Duaghert [as shown], (b) Joseph Daugherty , (c) Henry Daugherty.
3. Samuel Burlew, born 1783 in Virginia, died May 24, 1871, served in the War of 1812, married November 29, 1810 in Pendleton County, Ketucky, Lydia Ellis, born 1790 in Virginia. Their children: (a) Franklin R. (Polk) Burlew, born February 1824, married March 4, 1847, Pendleton County, Mary Ann Williamson, born 1828, (b) James (Peck) Burlew, born 1826, married November 9, 1849, Pendleton County, Mary Ann Spegal, born September 29, 1825, (c) Henry Burlew, born 1830, married Mary __?__, born 1833. (c) George Burlew, born May 20, 1859, (e) Nancy Burlew, married 1st Mr. McGraw, married 2nd Jack Ellis, married 3rd August 18, 1836, Woodhull Brown.
4. Thomas Belew, born 1787 in Virginia, died after 1824 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, married June 9, 1809, Pendleton County, Sarah Dougherty Thrasher, born 1787 and died July 7, 1851. Their children: (a) Elizabeth Belew, born 1811, died August 9, 1850, married April 10, 1830, Pendleton County, William D. Race, born May 19, 1809, Ohio, died February 7, 1892, son of Moses and Mary Tomlin Race. Their children: (1) Sarah Ann, married June 8, 1847 James Harrison Barker, (2) Elinia G., born 1839, died July 2, 1841, (3) Harrison, born 1840, (4) Stephen, born 1846, (5) Arabella S., born January 29, 1852, died May 30, 1930, married April 25, 1869, Robert Hampton Knight, (6) Wm. Seymour, born 1854, died March 23, 1932, married December 30, 1874, Florence I. Mann, (7) Tene A., born 1863.
(b) Emily Belew, married March 13, 1834, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Robert Childers, born 1805, son of Henry and Mary Childers. Their children: (1) Thomas G., born 1836, (Robert P., born 1845, (4) Mary Ann, (5) Sarah Ellen, (6) Alexander, died in infancy
(c) Joseph C. Belew, born circa 1826, married 1st, December 3, 1850, Narcissa E. Risk, married 2nd, April 22, 1959 Grant County, Kentucky, Mariah F. Blackburn, born 1837, daughter of Thomas R. and Elizabeth Francis Blackburn. Their children: (1) Wallace, and (2) Rankin.
5. Richard Belew, born October 1, 1790 in Virginia, died October 15, 1859 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, died October 15, 1859 In Pendleton County, married May 20, 1824, Pendleton County, Elizabeth Smith Dougherty, widow of Wm. Dougherty, born December 31, 1799 and died March 19, 1877. Buried in Oldham/Dougherty Cemetery, Pendleton County.
6. Amelia Elizabeth (Millie) Belew, born January 25, 1795 in Virginia and died January 30, 1856 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, married June 25, 1824, Robert Duckworth, born 1801 in England(?) and died April 1, 1851, Pendleton County. Their children: (a) Henry S. Duckworth, born 1833, married April 6, 1858, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Jane Collins Dougherty, widow of Joseph Dougherty. (b) Robert Perry Duckworth, (c) Mary Jane Duckworth, born 1840, married December 23, 1856, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Andrew Speagal, (d) Martha Ann Duckworth, born circa 1828, died 1898, married December 2, 1844, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Francis Landon Smith Jr., (e) Elizabeth Duckworth, married ____ Drake.
7. James Webb Belew, born Hampshire County, Virginia and died August 1845, Pendleton County, Kentucky, married June 27, 1822, Grant County, Kentucky, Mary Collins, who died 1843, daughter of Ralph Collins and Margaret Wharton. Their children were all born at Portland, Pendleton County.
(8) Elizabeth Belew, died after 1835, Pendleton County, Kentucky, 1st married February 10, 1814, Pendleton County, Kentucky, John Waters, died 1822. She 2nd married, April 14, 1825, Pendleton County, Kentucky, James Smith. Their children: (a) John Waters, (b) Emily Waters, married March 5, 1838, Pendleton County, William Martin, (c) Delilah Smith, born circa 1825, died circa 1854, married March 5, 1843, Pendleton County, Minor Martin, married 2nd, February 13, 1853, Pendleton County, Solomon Clark Wolfe, (d) Larkin Smith, born December 7, 1823, married January 30, 1850, Pendleton County, Nancy, born 1822, died circa 1906.
9. Mary (Polly) Belew, died after 1884, married January 4, 1816, Pendleton County, Kentucky, Samuel Webb, died 1832. Nothing else is known of this family.
