George Burns, son of David and Margaret (Franks) Webster Burns, was born in Grant County, Kentucky in July 1830 and died in Grant County, Kentucky. He married Nancy (Hicks) Skirvin in Grant County December 10, 1860. She was a native of Owen County, Kentucky, daughter of William Hicks and Catherine Jump. He married (2) Carolina (Jump) Jacobs, August 6, 1873 in Grant County, daughter of William Jump and Margaret Beard. Caroline was born February 20, 1829 in Grant County and died in Grant County May 10, 1913. She is buried in Clarks Creek Cemetery in Grant County.

George and Nancy Burns were the parents of the following children:
1. Albert R. Burns was born about 1858 in Grant County and died March 1899 in Grant County. He married Emma Marksberry December 11, 1879 in Grant County, Kentucky. They were the parents of four children: (1) Laura Burns, born January 1886 in Grant County and died May 21, 1961 in Kenton County, Kentucky. She married George Rekers. (2) Ethel "Elmer" Burns, born December 21, 1899 in Grant County and died January 7, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He married Bertha Read. (3) Bertha Burns, born August 1894 in Grant County and May 4, 1967.  She married Raymond Dorman. (4) Tommy Burns, born October 10, 1897 in Grant County and died in Batavia, Clermont County, Ohio. He married Alma Marie Beuting.

2. Sylvester Burns was born in Grant County September 1862 and died in Grant County July 23, 1912 at age 49 years and 9 months. He is buried in Clarks Creek Cemetery in Grant County. He married Sophia Marksberry in Lusby's Mill, Owen County, Kentucky November 8, 1888. Their children were (1) Harry Harold Burns, born June 28, 1901 in Grant County and died August 27, 1990 In Leland, LaSalle County, Illinois.  He married Gladys Lucille Rasmusson. (2) Beatrice Katheryn Burns, born in Grant County April 28, 1905. She married Dean Chase. (3) Grace Evaline Burns, born March 16, 1908 in Grant County and died May 23, 1975 in Sandwich, Illinois. She married Leo B. Fox, and (4) Kenneth Burns, born May 11, 1911 in Grant County and died August 30, 1938 in Grant County. He married Dorothy Mae Fortner.

3. Mary Catherine Burns was born June 4, 1865 in Grant County, Kentucky and died in Grant County November 5, 1915. She married Lewis Corbin Roland August 7, 1883 in Grant County. Their only child, Cleveland Roland, was born September 23, 1884 in Grant County and died January 16, 1946 in Fayette County, Kentucky.

4. Alonzo "Lonnie" Burns was born October 28, 1866 in Grant County and died December 22, 1958 in Owenton, Owen County, Kentucky. He married Sallie Ann Osborne in Grant County on December 26, 1899. They were the parents of (1) Cecil Burns, born March 1901 in Grant County and died February 3, 1919 in Grant County. (2) Ezra Burns, born February 19, 1905 in Grant County and died May 26, 1976 in Owen County, Kentucky. (3) Fred Burns, born February 11, 1903 in Grant County and died January 31, 1919 in Holbrook, Grant County. (4) Edna Burns, born May 23, 1904 in Grant County and died August 14, 1919 in Holbrook, Grant County. (5) Georgie Mae Burns, born May 4, 1908 in Grant County and died in Grant County November 18, 1955, and (6) Irene Burns, born January 21, 1914 in Grant County and died May 21, 1986 in Owen County Kentucky.

5. James L. Burns was born January 1870 in Grant County. He married (1) Mary T. Osborne October 31, 1896 in Grant County. They were the parents of the following children: (1) Gracie Kathryn, born August 28, 1899 in Grant County and did May 9, 1968 in Holbrook, Grant County, (2) Leonard Burn was born in Grant County, (3) Maudie B. Burns, born in Grant County, died September 15, 1973 in Campbell County, Kentucky and, (4) Claudie Burns was born in Grant County and died in Grant County in infancy. He married (2) Eliza Jewett Cobb in Grant County, Kentucky on March 12, 1903.
