(R.1537) - Lewis Buskirk, native of New Jersey, he and his family settled in Ohio County, Virginia before 1777. He lived on the Virginia-Pennsylvania border. His enlistment was in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In his rejected pension application, he outlined his service in Pennsylvania as an Indian spy, scout, and ranger. In Pendleton County, Kentucky, January 24, 1811, he married his second wife Sarah (Berry) Doty. The were living in Grant County in 1820, but in the fall of 1829 removed to Adams County, Illinois. His application was made in Adams County in 1834. He died there September 9, 1838 at age 78. In 1850 his widow, age 75, was living in Adams County, Illinois in the home of their son.
