S16340 At the time of this application he was at the age of 68 years. He first volunteered to serve under Captain Samuel Hickenbottom in Amherst County in the State of Virginia. This occurred October 11, the year before the surrender of Cornwallis, for a tour of three months near Richmond. He also substituted for a man by the name of William Nightbows for a tour of three months. He was then under Captain William Tucker and they marched to Williamsburg and to York and to Hampton and Newport and then back to York. He then went back to York. He was in a skirmish with the British at a place called Half Way House. He then served a tour under General Weeden, Colonel Dabney and Major Campbell. He was then discharged at York before the British entered there. He was born in Albemarle County, Virginia and moved to the State of Kentucky about thirty-five years ago. William Arnold and Joshua Childers swear that at one time they were well acquainted with him. He was invalid by file #16340. In all he served for six months beginning in the year 1781. He was on the Kentucky Roll of Pensions at the rate of $20 per annum. His certificate of pension was issued February 28, 1833 and it was sent to the Honorable R. M. Johnson.
