I, Joshua Childers of the County of Grant, Kentucky do make this my last will and testament and of which I appoint Sanford A. Theobald my executor.

I direct that my Negro man Sam shall be emancipated from and after my death. And in order to his removal from the State of Kentucky, I direct that my said executor appropriate to pay for his removal and for his support for one year thereafter the sum of $100 out of my estate and one brown mare and colt now on my farm, and if the said money and proceeds of the sale of the mare and colt shall not be sufficient for the above purpose, the balance to be paid out of my estate, but the said Negro man to be hired out to raise the said balance. And as to the residue of my estate I wish it to descend according to law. Given under my hand and seal this 25th day of September 1856.  Joshua (X) Childers. Witness: J. W. Thomas, B. Woodyard.

Grant County Court January Term 1857.
The last will and testament of Joshua Childers, deceased, was produced in court and offered for probate and record by Wm. S. Rankin at the October Term 1856 of said court, and its probate and record opposed by Wm. S. Ayers, his wife and other, who moved that the consideration of the probate and record be continued to the January term of said court, at which time it was again offered for probate and record by said Rankin, and then being proven by J. W. Thomas and Barnett Woodyard the two subscribing witnesses to said instrument, was ordered to be recorded which is accordingly duly admitted to record in my office this 26th day of February 1857.
