Browning Conrad
John Browning Conrad, author of Descendants of Elder William and Elizabeth Boyers Conrad, son of Guy and Etta Rae Browning Conrad, was born August 23, 1920 in Grant County, Kentucky. He married Wanda Ernestine McGill, daughter of William Floyd and Stella (Guill) McGill, July 18, 1945.
John B. was raised on his father's and grandfather's farm near Dry Ridge and attended the University of Kentucky, entering the U. S. Army Air Corps (now the U. S. Air Force) in 1942. He served in the European Theatre as an aerial navigator in the 8th Air Force. John B. worked for Delta Airline in Georgia, Ohio, and Tennessee, resigning in 1949 to enter the insurance business. He served on the Dry Ridge City Council as Chairman for two years, moved to Erlanger in 1955 where he served on the Erlanger City Council for two years. In 1960, John B. and his family moved to Lexington where he went into business for himself, organizing a life insurance company and a consulting and administrative service for employer-provided group insurance programs and pension plans. John B. joined the Dry Ridge Church of Christ, Primitive Baptist, in 1939 and was elected trustee in 1953 and deacon in 1959. When this church became the Dry Ridge Presbyterian Church in 1975, John B. served as ruling elder. His wife, Wanda, born May 15, 1922, also a native of Grant County, attended Georgetown College and taught school for seven years. She is a member of the Crestwood Christian Church. They were the parents of three daughters.
