John Browning Conrad

John Browning Conrad, 87, of Lexington, Kentucky, died Sunday, October 21, 2007, in Lexington. He was born in Dry Ridge, the son of the late Guy and Etta Rae Browning Conrad. He was Kentucky's first licensed insurance consultant who co-founded, with Floyd Cox Jr., and served as president of Conrad, Cox and Associates, Eagles National Life Insurance Co., First Mutual Life Insurance Company and First Mutual Insurance Company. He also co-founded, with Joseph M. Whitmer, and served as president of PAL Inc., an employee benefit administrative and consulting firm until he retired in 1985. Conrad was an avid historian and genealogical researcher who compiled family histories and contributed to the Living Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky. He, along with Ken Stone, was editor and publisher of Footsteps of the Past. Mr. Conrad served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, 8th Air Force during World War II as a navigator who flew on twenty-eight missions with the 392nd Bomb Group. He was a member of the Dry Ridge Presbyterian Church, the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Kentucky Historical Society, Grant County Historical Society, the Sons of the American Revolution and was past president of the 2nd Air Division Association. His wife, Wanda McGill Conrad, preceded him in death as did a sister, Utha Rae Conrad. Survivors include daughters, Annetta Conrad Tedesco of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Beth Conrad Shores of Lexington and Margaret Conrad White of Dumfries, Virginia; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held October 24, 2007 at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland in Lexington with Reverend William D. Jones officiating. Burial is planned for 10 a.m. October 25 at Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge.

Wanda McGill Conrad

Wanda McGill Conrad, 81, wife of John B. Conrad, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at the St. Joseph Hospital. She was a homemaker and a former elementary school teacher in Crittenden, Kentucky and Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born in Corinth, Kentucky, daughter of the late William Floyd and Stella Guill McGill. Mrs. Conrad was a member of Crestwood Christian Church, the Christian Women's Fellowship at the church and she had taught Bible Studies in homes for over twenty-five years, she attended Georgetown College for three years, was a member of the Woman's Association of Georgetown College, the DAR and the Kentucky Genealogical Society. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Annetta Conrad of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Beth Shores of Lexington, Margaret Rae White of Dumfries, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Douglas R. Stephan of Charlotte, North Carolina, Laura Stephan of Phoenix, Jennifer White of Lexington, John C. White of Paris Island, South Carolina, Peter Shores, Sammy Shores and Amy Beth Shores, all of Lexington; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at the W. R. Milward Mortuary Southland conducted by Rev. Bill McDonald with committal services at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, Kentucky.
