William Dougherty

William Dougherty was born November 1, 1748 in Augusta County, Virginia. The names of his parents are not given.

While residing in Rockbridge County, Virginia, William Dougherty served as a private with the Virginia troops as follows: from October 1777, three months in Captain John Pexton or Paxton's Company; in September 1779, seven or eight days in Captain William Taylor's Company; from September 1781, three months in Captain William Moore's Company, was at the capture of Cornwallis and guarded the prisoners to Winchester, Virginia.

His enlistment in September 1779, was for three months, but after seven or eight days of service, he had to return home due to sickness in his family, no names given.

He was allowed pension on his application executed February 11, 1833, at which time he was living in Lincoln County, Kentucky. There is no further data in this claim concerning the family of William Dougherty.
